BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Jings. Then not only did he do the late shift on News 24 last night, he also did the preceding shift over here on World!! (At least he was accompanied on The Hub by Nisha Pillai who was filling-in for Nik Gowing.....always a pleasure to see Nisha.)

Really nice to see Matthew Amroliwala at Downing Street, Jon Sopel at Westminster, Jane Hill with the Clegg lot, Carole Walker with the Tories and Sophie Long with the Dems!

I was pleasantly surprised to see both Sophie Long and Jane Hill on location - I've never seen either reporting really, and I think both are incredibly underused by the BBC. I find Matthew a lot more tolerable on location too - the BBC News Channel feels like it's really coming to life today, what with no time in that cramped studio.

Laura K was also presenting from Westminster earlier, as well as talking to Jon and Matthew at other points, and I've always thought she'd make a good presenter.


I think the next month is going to be incredibly interesting on the BBC!

I agree with you and let's not forget Ben Brown who was at Central London and Huw Edwards doing the main bulletins, Sian Williams was also out for Breakfast.

Really we also need someone in the studio with a round up of the other days news as well!

OK, only one bulletin, but Sophie Raworth did do that at One


In her Daily Politics days she did often co-present one day a week

Has to be said I think today can focus far more on politics than, for example, budget day where it wasn't quite important enough to ignore all other stories. I hadn't realised Ben was on until just now, and of course Huw.

I seriously think the BBC needs to reassess some of it's presenters - in my opinion Sophie should be on the six or ten full time, we should see more of George and Fiona in the field (both of whom have been very good when I've seen them) and make better use of presenters like Jon, Matthew, Sophie (Long), Jane Hill and Simon & Carrie. I think there are several presenters who are far better than the likes of Kate Silverton and Charlie Stayt. I also think Sussanna would be far more bearable on a bulletin like the One than Breakfast.


In regards to Laura I didn't know that - but I think it was a very clever move to make her Chief Political Correspondent for the NC as she is very very good! I just wish Carole Walker was made "Senior political correspondent".

We can also add George Alagiah to the people presenting out of the studio - finally we get other news coverage to with Sophie on the Six.

I'm guessing Huw will be in the studio for the ten - if not I'd guess George will be in the studio and Huw at Westminster?

think that's what will happen - george (or maybe fiona) inside and huw at westminster...long day for Huw though! Totally agree with comments regarding sophie long - hopefully after this she will be used more!

And don't forget George was live at Westminster for GMT earlier today, which will mean he'll have done a very long day.

Also, with Joanna presenting from Westminster tonight and Ben with the Tories, what will happen at 9:30pm? Will a World News presenter (or perhaps the 10:30 - 00:30 presenter) do that half hour from N8, or will someone do the brief World News update and then back to Westminster? I'm guessing the same crew and equipment will be used for the Ten as the NC?

Edit: Unless the Ten came from N6 or Downing Street, presumably with the Six O'CLock News' crew and equipment?

N6 isn't practical unless Newsnight is elsewhere. The BBC News at Ten now runs till 2235, followed by regional news and then weather. Presumably this applies until the election.

Why wouldn't Newsnight be in TC7?

Anyway, just noticed the BBC is running 'The Campaign Show' from Milbank with Jon from 9-10 anyway!
