At the 12pm TOTH, there was a presenter I'd not seen before - and there was no namecheck.

Tim Willcox was presenting the next time I looked - at 12:30.

Does anyone know who this presenter was - and was this unusual?

Sangeeta Myska (usually a correspondent) - she has been an occasional relief presenter for a couple of years now. I take it Tim did 9-12, then the BBC One midday bulletin and then returned for 15 minutes on the NC at 12:30.

He's on at 1pm again..looks like he might be doing nick and maxine's normal shift...not that surprised - its Tim after all!

Well that's daft, having a presenter on for 15 mins, so the 'normal' presenter can cover BBC One?

If she can manage 15 mins on the NC, she can manage 5 mins on BBC One!

luisa baldini has been at heathrow today...she could have easily had 5/10 minutes of coverage while Tim did the BBC one slot?! Although how easy would that have been to do gallery wise etc?

From memory(it's been a long afternoon!), the main issues would've been TOTH where the presenter reads the headlines on the NC. The PS has it's own 'headline' sequence(for want of a better word), then Jon Sopel hands over to the newsreader. Normally the PS newsreader is the NC presenter that takes over at 1pm, so normally there isn't a problem, but for some reason today's NC shift pattern seems to have changed, as the changeover didn't happen until 2pm(?).

Obviously the 2pm presenter wasn't available for some reason, so something had to be bodged together, not successfully in some opinions.

Presumbly it would've been technically impossible for Luisa Baldini to anchor the TOTH for that short period, unless they missed out the normal TOTH headline sequence & cut straight to Luisa to concentrate on the BA story, which would've looked odd presentationwise. (I know it's been known for major story coverage to cross the TOTH/ BOTH in the past!)

Maybe they could've run the short version of Click, goto weather early, then Tim could've linked to Luisa, then dashed to TC7(?) for BBC One, leaving Luisa to 'cover' but without a proper TOTH, it would've looked odd.(And if they'd 'lost' Luisa, they'd been totally ****!)

In short, why didn't they use Sangita on BBC One, as it was only 5 mins?

The BBC One bit in the Politics Show would have been TC7, so there would be no gallery issues with doing the TOTH from location via N6's gallery, other than what happens if the OB failed.

But Luisa, unless she had a copy of the headlines on her(Blackberry?), couldn't have done a normal TOTH anyway, could she?

Do we know why the normal shift pattern wasn't followed today?

It should be that BBC One opts into the news channel for a news update (on weekends AND weekend evenings as well) not that the BBC news channel opts into BBC one!

'It's now 1 O'clock and we cross over to the BBC News channel for a roundup of the days news'.

What's wrong with that?

Well the Politics Show (and Andy Marr) have dedicated BBC One only bulletins while the NC does its own thing.

Surely the much easier option would have been for Jon Sopel to read the news bulletin. Simples.
