Small piece from The Telegraph which further supports the belief that Somerville and Armstrong aren't permanent appointments to the news channel:

Julia Somerville and Fiona Armstrong allowed only a modest comeback at the BBC

Who is this bloke on 24 at the moment? He's very familiar. Is he from sport?

Yes, it's Roger Johnson.

That's the one.

He's competent enough, decent to watch.

Yeah, he isn't too bad - I find his voice a bit on the dull side, but that's preferable to seeing Tim Willcox all day long!

Surely it would have made more sense to hire just one of them, permanently, to replace Peter Sissons?! 30-day contracts is ridiculous!

Definitely. It does seem a bit of a joke and an insult to Julia and Fiona. Surely they can snap up Julia to even do some relief work, or a permanent slot at the weekend.

It defeats the whole object of hiring them. The BBC are showing they are not ageist for about a month, then that's it, although I feel that this whole ageism thing has been hyped up far too much.

Doesn't look like we'll be seeing them on national news at the moment!

Just spotted a report (about new breakdowns on the Eurostar) by Chris Rogers. Has he been with the BBC for long?

He's been on a bit this weekend. 3 reports filed I believe.

He also did an undercover special a few weeks back.

Does anyone else think that some of the presenters on the BBC News Channel are getting a bit too big for their boots when conducting interviews? On two occasions over the weekend, I've witnessed presenters crossing the line in my opinion. Firstly, Tim Wilcox suggested to Peter Mandelson that Gordon Brown knowingly exploited the death of his child for political gain during the Piers Morgan interview and secondly, I've just watched Ben Brown conducting an interview with John Prescott regarding the accusations of bullying at Number 10 in which he made a snide remark about Mr Prescott. Brown had asked Prescott whether Gordon Brown gets into a rage at work and Prescott started off by saying that every politician under pressure gets into a rage from time to time, including himself - to which Ben Brown said "And we all know what you do when you get into a rage", which understandably frustrated Mr Prescott. That incident happened about 9 years ago now and is completely irrelevant to the discussion of the current PM. Whilst I'm no Brown/Labour fan, I really do think some of these journalists are stepping over the mark. These interviews are frankly cringe-worthy to watch at times and I think they should have a little more respect and deference for our elected politicians, whilst at the same time still holding them to account. It appears to me that on occasions BBC presenters are a bit full of themselves.
