Don't know if this is noteworthy or not but the 7-10pm slot is being presented by Joanna Gosling and Sophie Long (well, it might change at 8pm?)

As I said earlier, none of them have permanent positions at the moment. They're contracted to work a certain number of hours per year and that's it. They're only on this week because it's half term.

As for Zeinab being more well-known than Julia, I have to disagree. Yes, Zeinab has been at the BBC longer but she has almost exclusively been on BBC World. The only domestic BBC programmes I can remember her having presented are Westminster Live back in c. 2001 and the occasional Hard Talk. While she was at ITN, the most senior position she had to my knowledge was second presenter on Channel 4 News during the 1990s.

Julia, on the other hand, presented the BBC Nine O'Clock News regularly during the 1980s and went on to be a high profile presenter at ITN, presenting the Lunchtime News, News at Ten and the ITN News Channel. Of the two of them, without doubt Julia will be the more familiar to domestic audiences, even if she is associated more with ITN than the BBC.

Robert - How could you forget Zeinab's contribution to the then ITN Morning News, which was 60mins in length, albeit it 30 chomped up by ITN World News. Zeinab was one of the first presenters to work on 'ITN Through the Night'. Wink

Of course! I'd forgotten that she'd worked on ITV as well while at ITN. However, I stand by my argument, as I doubt all that many people saw her on overnight bulletins Smile

That might be, but the BBC do seem to be combining BBC 1 and World shifts a bit - if you think that George had been off World screens for quite a few years by the time he joined 'World News Today' (now 'GMT'). Equally Mishal had been off British screens for quite a few years before she joined Breakfast!

My point was rather that Zeinab is known to domestic viewers and is a BBC employee, making her the most likely to appear. If Julia was to join BBC One why would they first introduce her on the NC?

Also, Robert, Nick Owen was only contracted for a set number of shifts (ISTR it being around 100 shifts a year) and there had been no talk of him appearing on BBC One until he one day did. I doubt some of Julia or Zeinab's NC shifts couldn't be transferred over to BBC One if they agreed! In fact, given how NC presenters now regularly appear at weekends, on the One and on Breakfast, it's possible this is already in their contracts, seeing as the One and weekends are far closer to NC now than they were previously.

She wasn't as smooth as Julia, and as I said earlier - she looked ever so short next to Simon, but great overall. I do hope however that she isn't a replacement for Carrie - Simon and Carrie are a class pairing, would be a shame to split them up.

Nice to see Fiona on the BBC. She settling in well now since the start of the week, where at one point she starting touching her temple whilst reading a long link.

Zeinab did the Andrew Marr Show once back in Summer 2008

How long has Will Gompertz been appearing? He's on tonight/ this morning with a story about a 33 year old who's landed a 6 figure sum for his novel. So far would prefer Razia Iqbal to be honest.

Strange seeing Nik Gowing and Nisha Pillai sharing presenting duties together on The Hub, given that Nisha used to be a "senior" anchor on the channel. A bit like a Whitehouse with two presidents! However, always a pleasure to see Nisha Pillai on the news. One of the best, IMO.

I was hoping she'll be the replacement anchor for the Hub, finally she's got something to do, I haven't seen her on BBC for ages which is a big shame.

I have to say the 9-13.00 cet slot with David Eades is unwatchable for me, it used to be the best part of the schedule with the double headed newshour and now it's the opposite and the small set is already boring.

Kate doing the 6 tonight, great (not!). I wish Sian would do instead!

Anyone know who is doing the 10? - Radio times says Huw, I would have thought he would have done the 6 too.

Can't believe Kate is being given another go at the News at Six, I wish Sian would do it, hopefully Sian may do the Ten tonight but I have a feeling it could still be Huw. He also may do the Five if he does the Ten, it's not like it hasn't happened before.

On a separate not Julia has been absolutely great this week I do hope there is something on BBC One on the way for her!

Good to see Kate on the 6. I prefer a female presenter actually.

I wish the BBC would make the 6 more of a flagship bulletin. Advertise it more as THE BBC's main bulletin. More like the American nightly news casts, which are all hyped up and built up, and promoted as the historic, flagship bulletin. The 6 just doesn't have that grandness anymore. Thinking back to say 1995 or 1996, the 6 seemed more important then.

I think Sian would have done both if she was doing the 10.

I just don't think Kate's that good an interviewer, newsreader or necessarily a credible journalist. I've preferred her when I've seen her presenting non-news programmes before.

One person I'd love to see on Breakfast at some point is Julian Worricker - I think he's quite understated a newsreader. And I'm loving Julia's chemistry with Julian and Dominic today. I'm starting to think Julia + Julian could be quite the pairing.
