How fantastic it is to hear Julia today. Talk about bringing authority to the channel, and this afternoon with Nicholas Owen too. I might video tomorrow to see if Fiona is on. I have to admit it would be a shame for Carrie and Simon to be split up, but the more Julia and Fiona we get (and less Ellie and Emily) the better.

Well done BBC. Keep it up.
I totally agree with you its fantastic to see Julia and she has done really well and Fiona has been quite good too! If would be a huge shame to see Simon and Carrie split up as the are such a great pairing and have great chemistry but I wouldn't mind them covering instead of the likes of Luisa Baldini, Ellie Crisell and other like them.
I'm a little puzzled at why people are talking about Simon and Carrie being split up, and not the idea of Julia replacing Louise on the afternoon slot? Quite clearly they're (at least at the moment) only relief/ cover presenters! And I think the most likely to leave the channel over time will be Louise Minchin, who already has other BBC 1 commitments.
House, one wonders if we will see Julia turning up (sooner than we expect, perhaps) on the 1, 6 or 10? I do indeed believe it will happen and I hope it does. It would be nice to see Julia filling-in occassionally for Huw Edwards or George Alagiah.

Can you shed any light on the matter?
Yeah I can see this happening. IIRC - it was mentioned in December that they'd first start on the News Channel and could possibly turn up on the main bulletins. Nicholas Owen was quick to appear on the 6 and weekends after he joined the NC. I see no reason why Julia couldn't.

Fingers crossed.
Especially with the current *OMG WE NEED MORE OLDER WOMEN ON TV* obsession that the BBC seem to have.
I think we'll need to see what role(s) Julia has over the coming weeks - remember Nick Owen joined as a weekend presenter, who also appears during the week. Out of the four who have been appointed, I think Zeinab is the most likely to make it to BBC 1, given she's already a known face on the BBC (through World, Reporters and occasionally HardTalk). I can see her having a similar arrangement as Mishal Husain.
I'll wait to pass comment on Julia until she's been on a bit longer - she still seems quite nervous/ stiff today. I think the problem is rolling news is a very specific type of broadcast and it takes a while to get used to it. I know Julia had done some work on the ITV News Channel (?) but that was quite some time ago and I'd expect her to warm up in the same way younger presenters, including Anita McVeigh, Sophie Long and Kasia Madera have.
Not seen Fiona's shifts yet and I have no idea when Carole or Zeinab will be on. I can imagine Zeinab appearing on the BBC News at Five, perhaps.
Interesting you should say that as I was just thinking it would make more sense for Zeinab to appear on the five, as she is already 'proven' on world.
Julia Summerville is proving to be excellent, and I think she makes an excellent pairing with Nicholas Owen. George Alagiah has been rumoured to be moving on from the six for some time now, which would give them the opportunity for some of the 50+ presenters to appear on the one/six.
It would be a shame for the 50+ to take over completely, as some of the 30+ readers are excellent as well (Carrie) and simply giving somebody the job because they are older is just as bad as giving it to somebody because they are autocuties.
As I said earlier, none of them have permanent positions at the moment. They're contracted to work a certain number of hours per year and that's it. They're only on this week because it's half term.
As for Zeinab being more well-known than Julia, I have to disagree. Yes, Zeinab has been at the BBC longer but she has almost exclusively been on BBC World. The only domestic BBC programmes I can remember her having presented are Westminster Live back in c. 2001 and the occasional Hard Talk. While she was at ITN, the most senior position she had to my knowledge was second presenter on Channel 4 News during the 1990s.
Julia, on the other hand, presented the BBC Nine O'Clock News regularly during the 1980s and went on to be a high profile presenter at ITN, presenting the Lunchtime News, News at Ten and the ITN News Channel. Of the two of them, without doubt Julia will be the more familiar to domestic audiences, even if she is associated more with ITN than the BBC.

Robert - How could you forget Zeinab's contribution to the then ITN Morning News, which was 60mins in length, albeit it 30 chomped up by ITN World News. Zeinab was one of the first presenters to work on 'ITN Through the Night'.

Of course! I'd forgotten that she'd worked on ITV as well while at ITN. However, I stand by my argument, as I doubt all that many people saw her on overnight bulletins
