It was great to see Matt Frei live in Haiti yesterday with Kate in the studio. I didn't expect them to have to presenters as it was Saturday but it still worked well like in Weekdays. I wonder if Matt will be still there today and they put him on the evening news bulletins with Mishal.
EDIT: George was on today - unusual to see him on sunday!

Sorry, is he in the studio or in Port au Prince? Because I was assuming the previous poster had meant he was presenting from London...

I haven't watched BBC News for the last two days until now, and the previous poster's 'unusual to see him on sunday!' made me think he was in the studio - quite clearly Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 doesn't make sense if you've shipped them out to a war zone or a natural disaster!

Does it really matter if theres no females? How often do you see a male presenter do the 60 second summaries on BBC One... never. Case closed.
EDIT - found out now, Ben Brown and Huw with Ben in haiti. So that's Matthew Price, Ben Brown, George Alagiah and Matt Frei all there - am I right? - Any females?

I actually think it's far more important than that.
Men's work: war / natural disaster reporting.
Women's work: look pretty and read the auto-cue for 60 seconds on BBC1.
On the BBC News at Ten there are hardly any female correspondents who appear regularly (watch it this week and look at the ratio). There are hardly any female correspondents in hot spots. I can think only of Orla Guerin in Pakistan and Caroline Wyatt, at Defence. There are lots of women in social affairs, however. Caroline Hawley was in Baghdad for a while a year ago but seems to have disappeared.
It's not just a case of getting older women to present the news - it's a case of sexism, pure and simple. It appears there's a very male culture at BBC News where women are not valued as journalists and correspondents. There are plenty of women working in the BBC but why aren't they allowed on the front line (and I'm not just talking about war)? Where's the Kate Adie of 2010?
Oh, today it's Ellie Crissell and she's reading the autocue at 8pm on BBC1. Isn't she pretty?
