Any idea who is doing the news on Christmas Day? As far as I can remember Jane Hill did both Christmas Day and New Years Day last year, or am I getting confused?
That might have been the year before...it was George that did both last year. I think it might be Sophie on one of them...
Ah yes...you're right, I got confused. If Sophie did one I'd imagine it being New Year since she has a young family? Jane could possibly be on Christmas or perhaps Kate? I wouldn't think it would be Louise if she's doing breakfast on the 26th. Who usually does NC over Christmas/New Year. I wouldn't like to be stuck in a studio at the turn of the year! Who has this rubbish task?
Yes, Kate may do one of them or Emily may also. I'm sure there is one person who won't say no to BBC news channel shifts.....Tim Willcox!! I think Ellie Crisel did shifts last year and they'll probably use some of the overnight presenters - Martine Croxall, Kasia Madera, James Dagwell, Juliet Dunlop etc etc
For quite a few years Jane seemed to do Christmas day bulletins, though last year it was George Alagiah. Matthew Amroliwala did a shift on the NC if I remember, because he then 'disappeared' to let George present the actual bulletin which I thought was a complete waste. Carole Walker also did the NC if I remember correctly and also I believe Sophie Long. Yes, I think Ellie Crisell did New Years Eve/ Day as you say because people commented at the time that producers were taking a risk having her on her own - what if breaking news struck.
Personally the least we see of Kate on Christmas day the better imo - personally I wouldn't mind seeing Jane Hill, Mishal Husain, Matthew A or even Carrie Gracie (who never gets BBC One airtime

) as all three of them have a very relaxed but not laid back style of presenting - slightly lower, softer voices which work better at Christmas than Shouty Silverton. Though I suspect we'll be seeing as much of Kate as they can throw at us over the coming months - for someone supposedly so loved by beeb bosses she doesn't really have a proper job, more doing random shifts, assignments and odd regular work where ever they can find it for her.
I still hope that, one day, BBC bosses decide that it would make more sense to have Simon McCoy and Carrie Gracie as weekend relief presenters (with Charlie and Kate/ Louise for weekdays) for breakfast and move Nagga, Sonia, Jon Kay and even Chris Hollins to covering the morning slots on the NC in regular presenters' absences. Such a shame that two, usually, wonderful, professional and experienced presenters get sidelined for the likes of shouty, wooden presenters who I'd cringe for even if they were on Look North.
