There was something quite reassuring about Huw doing the Huw as he read his closing segment in that short film.

I can’t recall a similar short film of BBC Newsreaders in bygone days for any other cause. Quite poignant.

I'd be interested to know how many BBC staff currently are :-

1: Working from home because they can
2: Working from home because they or their family are displaying CV symptoms
3: Working at their normal BBC premises, because they have to
4: Number of staff furloughed?
5: Off work sick

I would expect the answer to No 4 to be zero?

I would expect there to be some furloughing going on across the wider BBC, particularly in non production roles like BBC Tour guides, BBC Shop staff. Do BBC studios employ people to look after studio audiences? I imagine catering is outsourced?

Are there scene shifters at NBH to dress Studio B for Marr and Derbyshire? (Or does the floor manager do it?)

Several people have already put in FoI requests about BBC staff furloughing on whatdotheyknow.com so I daresay an answer will emerge soon.

I would expect some third party contract workers at the BBC to be furloughed, but not any BBC employees themselves, any more than at any other publically funded organisation?

The idea of furlough is to mitigate against a drop in revenue, which obviously isn't a problem in this case

Indeed there may be people just not working (self isolation or role not required at present) but retained on full pay. Hopefully some of those where the role is not required are redeployed to cover those who are away.

It's interesting that ITN have appeared (from their press release) to have furloughed their sports journalists, rather than (perhaps) redeploying them on other news.

BBC Studioworks presumably has a lot of cancelled studio bookings?

Yes but do they have a lot of staff? I would have thought that most of the crews that work in their studios are freelance, either directly employed by them or the production companies

BBC Studioworks are a plc separate to the BBC itself, so their rules are different

A wholey owned subsidiary, not a PLC of course

They have a significant number of engineering and lighting staff, plus a lot (but not all) of the EastEnders studio production crew.

Hello, Matrix. It’s not often we see you around here. Hope all’s well. *waves*

Did y’all see the shortie that aired before the Ten? What do you think?

Thanks, James. Hope you're well? Life is good albeit weird.

Absolutely loved that aspect of the campaign - although already seen a version cut with Guy Gomera (sp?). On the whole though, think it's a great little reminder of how important News is at the minute.

Babita Sharma is presenting on NC/World right now. Out of interest, although Newsday is on hiatus, who are its actual presenters now? Kasia Madera and Sharanjit Leyl? I haven't seen Babita on that programme for months and Rico left.
