Unfamiliar presenter on the news channel at 18:30, think his name was Clive something or other.

Are you being serious? It's Clive Myrie.

Quite clearly it was a reference that he virtually never actually presents on the channel any more despite seemingly still having a regular shift on it.

Quite clearly, of course, my apologies.

It’s hardly his shift anymore is it not? He focuses on Fridays, Weekends and inevitably absences of the main BBC 1 presenters. He also seems to be the on location man for going abroad for BBC 1 bulletins.

It now could be any one of Lukwesa, Shaun, Martine, Geeta, Ben, Rebecca, Rachel, Julian, Carrie and Reeta who appear on the shift. This is the first time Clive has done it in months.

Is it a case of how dare she not do rolling news? Or she’s had a different path to the main 6 and 10 bulletins unlike the others. She now does Question Time and therefore isn’t there to be prancing around doing whatever shift comes up. She does the 6 on a Monday, generally.

There has been confusion about who presents when/what, and I have noticed a pattern so far this year:

Monday 1: Ben / Sophie
Monday 5: Huw / Ben
Monday 6: Fiona
Monday 10: Huw

Tues 1: Jane
Tues 5: Huw / Ben
Tues 6: George / Sophie
Tues 10: Huw

Wed 1: Sophie / Jane / Reeta
Wed 5: Huw / Ben
Wed 6: George / Sophie
Wed 10: Huw

Thurs 1: Ben / Sophie
Thurs 5: Ben / Reeta
Thurs 6: George / Sophie
Thurs 10: Sophie / Reeta / Clive

Fri 1: Ben
Fri 5: Jane
Fri 6: Sophie
Fri 10: Clive / Reeta

Note Huw has not done a Thursday so far this year - possibly earning back time from all the extra hours over last few years or change in contract.

So simply put they have too many presenters all over the place.

Which propably won't be changing anytime soon even with budget cuts coming.

If Ben Brown is doing the One you can almost guarantee he will do the Five if Huw needs another day off. As sometimes will Reeta unless she does the Six. It’s just Jane Hill who doesn’t do the One and Five on the same day but that’s due to personal reasons.

Also Sophie Raworth usually doesn't do more than one bulletin a day

Sophie Raworth use to do an afternoon shift on the news channel when it was upstairs at BBCTVC. She’d carry on from the One.

I think regarding Fiona Bruce - it has to be contractual that she not appear on the news channel because as long as I can recall, she simply never has outside of 1, 6 and 10 Simulcasts.

Mishal does when she can, google will tell you it was her own choice to step into radio.

Regarding Kate Silverton doing anything on World, and certainly GMT - I’d love to see a video?

She was everywhere at that point - Breakfast, One, Six, Ten, World, weekend bulletins and I seem to remember a few stints on the News channel, although I could be mistaken there. Seems strange to think she was doing all that at one point but ever since her return from maternity leave in 2016/17 all she now does is every other Saturday at most. She doesn't even do the One anymore. But if she is freelance i suppose they can only give her shifts as and when she's needed.

She was a regular presenter on the News channel when it was News 24 back in 2005-2007 but famously Philip Hayton, who shared the slot with her at the time, quit claiming they apparently didn't quite see eye to eye.

Simon McCoy had just joined BBC News after leaving Sky News (initially I believe he was recruited as some senior correspondent) but he swiftly took Hayton's vacated place and the rest as they say, is history.

Yes, it was rather annoying when she was everywhere but actually think she's one of the better newsreaders at the BBC and if they were to finally tidy up the rota I think she's an obvious choice for the 1pm bulletin (even 6pm if they were being radical!)

I think Kate is brilliant. Clearly great emotional intelligence.

Indeed there was a period where it felt like she was overused and could become the next Kaplinsky in terms of how she seemed to very quickly start appearing on all the bulletins.
These days I'm a big fan of her - an experienced newscaster and she was a professional but warm & personable presentation style and from what I'm seen of her in interviews and on Strictly she seems a lovely person.
all new Phil and Brekkie gave kudos
