Totally disagree with you on that. I think it's harder to do rolling News Channel presenting than doing a half hour scheduled news programme. There's much unpredictability to rolling news, which you have to react to.

They are two different jobs. There are people who are good at both, some are better at one than the other, and some bring the skills of one to the other.

Bulletin presenting often needs writing skills, will include editorial involvement in running order decisions, pre-discussion and pre-briefing reporters about two-ways etc., and in many cases a degree of production journalism.

Continuous news presenting requires the ability to ad lib fluently and at length, conduct longer interviews in a breaking news environment, and to absorb new information whilst speaking live on-air. It also often requires the ability to sight read autocue clearly (even when not written that well...)

Odd. There was a short period where Kate Silverton was presenting and then it cut back to Lukwesa Burwak. Perhaps the segments with Kate were recorded earlier?

Simulcast with BBC One between 17:40 and 17:50. Can’t see anything different other than that?

On the subject of bulletin presenter and rolling news presenter, I can’t think of one bulletin presenter that can’t handle rolling news other than Fiona Bruce and I’m sure that’s only because she’s never been on shift when they’ve had to go into rolling news mode.

If you need a good example of just how bad people were years ago - then good old Peter Sissons had a hard time of transitioning from bulletin presenting to rolling news, almost painful to watch. As was Sir Alistair Burnett during the gulf war. Tv channels didn’t start open ended coverage until the Gulf War. John Suchet became an instant success at mastering the art during that time as did Richard Bath and Anne Leuchars.

I think I'm right in saying that Fiona Bruce is the only presenter not to have done a dedicated shift on the News channel or World News at some point. The other main bulletin presenters; Huw Edwards, Sophie Raworth, Kate Silverton and Mishal Hussain have all appeared at some point or another for various reasons on News 24/News channel - and of course George Alagiah fronted GMT for many years on World News. Rita Chakrabarti, Clive Myrie, Jane Hill and Ben Brown who regularly do relief shifts all started out on the rolling news channel, or do a mix of both News channel and main bulletins.

I'd say rolling news is probably harder than bulletins to be honest - most of the time on the averagee bulletin the questions they ask reporters aren't overly detailed (often 'what's the latest'/'what are you hearing' type questions) and are relatively brief and the whole thing is more planned so you have less need to think on your feet/adapt on the fly.

Whereas with rolling news you have to think on your feet if any breaking news happens and there are long interviews/exchanges that you need to prepare for. Most rolling news anchors I think could handle a bulletin pretty comfortably.
To add to the examples mentioned above too, Julia Somerville was a brilliant newsreader on set bulletins but back 10 or so years back when she was on the BBC News Channel while still good, she wasn't anywhere near as strong.

Although she was the launch presenter of the ITN News Channel, though that was very much back to back bulletins at launch.

I wonder where Rico is moving to? He’ll be missed at World.

There are some rumors swirling that Rico may be getting a new gig in PHL, just like how Cathy Yang got the business anchor position on ANC after her stint at Bloomberg and CCTV, but whoever gets him next has to pay big with his credentials.

I'm surprised Kate Silverton, Sophie Raworth, Mishal Hussian don't do more relief shifts on the news channel, they all have proved themselves. Silverton is a relief presenter for GMT, Hussian for Impact. Surely if the Five presenter isn't doing the Ten it should be the One presenter? Or the One presenter should do the Nine?

If Ben Brown is doing the One you can almost guarantee he will do the Five if Huw needs another day off. As sometimes will Reeta unless she does the Six. It’s just Jane Hill who doesn’t do the One and Five on the same day but that’s due to personal reasons.

Sophie Raworth use to do an afternoon shift on the news channel when it was upstairs at BBCTVC. She’d carry on from the One.

I think regarding Fiona Bruce - it has to be contractual that she not appear on the news channel because as long as I can recall, she simply never has outside of 1, 6 and 10 Simulcasts.

Mishal does when she can, google will tell you it was her own choice to step into radio.

Regarding Kate Silverton doing anything on World, and certainly GMT - I’d love to see a video?
