I do like Huw but I do feel as though he's gotten a bit too big for his boots in the last few years. I preferred him in the 90s and 00s when he seemed more restrained and actually worked the summer.
Sophie Raworth is back from her holiday after only a week or two, compared to Huw who's been off most of the summer. It's outrageous he holds the position of chief newsreader when there's others there far more than him, I bet he gets paid a lot more too. Him having other jobs away from the news is no excuse as Sophie has other jobs.
Huw is actually one of the hardest working in the business. With his news channel commitments, network commitments and stuff in between does he not deserve a holiday?
He's also one of the most lovely and funny people you could meet. He recently attended a charity gala night for a local rotary club too, which helped raise money for a charity I also work for.
And (believe it or not) he did extra in the 2nd half of April (aka 2 Sunday Evening Bulletins) whilst also rehearsing the for the Local Elections (as Clive Myrie was sent to Columbio when the attacks in Sri Lanka happened on Easter Sunday whilst on the latter Sunday, Mishal Husain was covering for Andrew Marr as that was they had the technical problems)
Huw, Fiona and Sophie should do more weekends in my opinion instead of the usual faces all the time.

Can't see it happening, but personally I'd like to see a return to the 90's way of the weekend presenting, ie, have a newsreader doing all the daytime and early evening duties, and then have one of the "senior" presenters doing the late bulletin. Best way might be actually to confirm somebody as the official NaT deputy, and have their remit to present on Friday and the Weekend late bulletins, which is probably best suited for Clive Myrie, and have Sophie Raworth take over full time on the Six, which she seems to do most days now anyway, with George Alagiah as deputy presenter (I know he's returned but I've rarely seen him present since, but understandable given his health reasons), although I know the BBC bashers would spin it as George being demoted, and then appoint a new rota for the One. I've gone off topic, but I find the lack of consistency for presenters on the One a little annoying atm.
Katty Kay has announced shes going on sabbatical from today,
"tomorrow we’re moving to Senegal for the autumn. I’m writing a new book. Husband runs a non profit in Africa. Poppy going to a local school in french (we’re going with the “it’s an amazing opportunity, you’ll thank us one day” line.) Off TV for a bit but back soon."

Saw this - gutted. B100D will be rubbish without her.
