Martine is as competent as anyone else, probably more than some of the others listed.
Really happy they’ve given her this gig. Wasn’t a last minute change. Geeta and Annita did the earlier, Jane (who is clearly the more senior) did the 1 and afternoon. Reeta is sat at the network desk and clearly doing the 6 and 10.
I don’t really know much about bbc news I usually watch itv news but I assume they don’t have a set presenter(s) for their bbc one shows like news at 1,6,10

Well officially it’s been Sophie Raworth for the 1, George Alagiah for the 6 and Huw Edwards for the 10, with Fiona Bruce taking Friday 6&10.

The Six is still officially fronted by George Alagiah, and the Ten is fronted by Huw Edwards. However, in recent years, they have reduced their hours to only doing 2/3 days a week, or in George’s case taking time off due to his cancer. Therefore you find programmes the Six hosted (pre-COVID) by Fiona Bruce on a Monday, George Alagiah Tuesday-Thursday and Sophie Raworth on a Friday. The Ten is normally Huw Edwards Monday-Wednesday, Sophie Raworth on a Thursday, Clive Myrie on a Friday and Clive/Mishal Husain on a Sunday.
The News at One is hosted at the moment by Simon McCoy and Jane Hill however pre-COVID it tended to be either Reeta Chakrabati, Sophie Raworth, Jane Hill or Ben Brown with no set days.
Since the pandemic we have seen a lot more continuity in the presenting pattern.
Its the first time in 91 editions that a presenter not familiar to BBC One viewers has hosted the Coronavirus Daily Update
Considering some of the Ministers who've been put forward to front the briefings I think 91 episodes in the BBC not using one of their A or B team to front the briefing is fair enough. She's appeared frequently at weekends on BBC1 anyway.
For someone who barely has to, Nick Robinson is bloody brilliant at reading the autocue whilst looking like he isn’t reading an autocue. And not in the Huw Edwards way of looking down and adding um every 2 seconds. Much much better than certain (no names) full time presenters.
(And I know it’s an autocue because you can just about see it in the background )

Praise where praise is due where Nick Robinson is concerned, but just to correct you on the Huw point. That's simply his style of presentation and always has been. Much like you'll never see him using his keyboard or to leaning to the right (from his perspective) at the start of the bulletin. It's called 'doing the Huw"

I have no issue with it, infact it’s better than when the presenters just read with no tone. When presenters do that it makes the viewing about as interesting as reading T&Cs.
