Agreed, she is great. I still however think that her skills lie in rolling news, the press conference suits her very well. Same with Ben Brown - I remember criticism of him here however I think he is more than competent.

It's still sort of a shame though that not all of the talents at the BBC have proper slots. I have masses of hope that they sort this out once the appropriate shows return, and I have worked out various ways to fit people in post-COVID. At the moment we have seen the most continuity in ages.

Think its fair to say though Sophie will have definitely moved on from the One (despite someone on Wikipedia not letting me edit the fact that she is not the main presenter Monday - Thursday with Kate Silverton on a Friday Rolling Eyes ) for good and Clive won't really be seen on his evening shift either.

Who are you trying to list as main presenter of the One?

Nobody, I suggested an edit (pre-Covid) to say that it was a mix of Sophie, Jane, Ben and Reeta with Simon being a regular relief. Before COVID it tend to be Sophie/Ben/Reeta on Monday, Jane on Tuesday, Jane/Sophie on Wednesday, Ben/Reeta on a Thursday and almost always Ben on a Friday. But then of course we got consistency and Jane and Simon - something which even my not at all interested in news mother has noticed.

With Fiona, I find it strange as well. She’s consistent with doing the Monday Six but at the end of the day, if she didn’t present then it would be possible to make the Six just George and Sophie and the Ten just Huw and Clive. But I guess I understand why she would want to do it.

For future i would keep Simon/Jane on the One and do Afternoon Live on the same day, and move the Film Review to 1:45pm. Ben/Reeta would share the Five and cover the One where necessary. Ben would also be the main face on the evening NC shift and Reeta would fill in the Six/Ten. The Six would be George/Sophie and the Ten would be Huw/Clive. Weekends would continue as they are.

I have my ideas, but to avoid upsetting others they shall forever remain for my viewing only Wink

What's possible during a pandemic won't necessarily be possible in the longer term. Unless they want to give some people large pay rises at a time they need to be making massive savings it really wouldn't be a good idea to introduce job shares between people on significantly different salaries. I imagine quite a few news presenters have already argued for higher pay based on the published data last year. In many ways the BBC are probably quite happy to have everyone do a slightly different mix of several different programmes as it makes it virtually impossible for presenters to compare themselves against each other which is needed for such claims to be successful.

For those of us watching BBC World, neither the BBC Weekend News @ 6 (if that bulletin occurred) nor the 10 were simulcast today.

At 6PM BST (10AM PDT) we had a regular bulletin with Sammantha Simmonds. And at 10PM BST (2PM PDT), we have a BBC World branded bulletin with Lukwesa Burak.

Perhaps we're starting to see the broadcast consolidation unwinding.

I had forgotten how good Tim Wilcox is. Wish we had more of him on the NC.

If you go back about 10 years or so you'd find many people wished the opposite (not because he was awful, but because he was on so much).

Haha! I remember that time well. He'd be on air for days and nights. Marathon shifts. From News Channel to World and then back for another shift on the News Channel.
