BBC News Presenter Count 1967-2020

Presented by Rolling News and mccanmat. With cmthwtv and News96.

Robert Williams Founding member London London
Richard Baker must surely still have the longest tenure, even if he didn't read the most bulletins - from the first television news bulletin in July 1954 to New Year's Eve 1982 - 28 years.

If we refer to main news bulletins, then Huw probably does lead the pack.

If we are talking about any news bulletin, I’d guess that BIG MOIRA would still lead in terms of number of bulletins presented.

Back in the day, Moira would present up to six/seven/eight bulletins a day, albeit those could either be short daytime summaries combined with the Six on the same day, or insert bulletins (‘inserts’ being news bulletins during Breakfast, On the Record, Breakfast with Frost/Sissons, etc, etc). But all news bulletins nevertheless.

Also, Moira would have presented weekly news programmes such as News Review and, latterly, NewsView.

So, if we were to tally the total number of news bulletins regardless of the bulletin’s duration, I think Moira could well be the leader.

However, Huw did Rolling News on both N24/Channel, whereas Moira didn’t. How would you measure a 2 hour slot on the channel? A single bulletin, four half hour bulletins or two one hour bulletins?

Moira’s length of service at BBC News was continuously from 1981 to 2007. (26 years in total).

If you go to the extent of measuring the NC (and by extension World) as half hour bulletins I expect the person who has presented the most would be Matthew Amroliwala as one of the last remaining launch presenters of the NC and having worked a 5 day week for the vast majority of the past 23 years.

Ohhh the hokey pokey! Knees bend arms stretch rah! rah! rah!

Will do. This reminds me of the old Fridays... when's the last time Sophie did the 6 and Clive the 10 on a Friday? Must've been March?
