Would be interesting to see how the network and nations and regional bulletins would have looked if generalisation had come a little bit early and the flags been the adopted look.

Maybe city and county flags for the regions?

C is at minus 3, IIRC. E (and the pit) at minus 1. I think.

If the broadcast staff are all based in the live newsroom behind E, at that level, then it’s probably unlikely that they’d replicate the same working newsroom backdrop scenario at level -3 ( Studio C). It defeats the purpose of shared resources and technical staff all being consolidated (for World and Channel) in the same space.

If you mean the other way round (E having a non-newsroom backdrop like C does), then I’m not sure why it wasn’t built that way. Other than a decision that the main output studio for Channel and Network would feature a live working newsroom backdrop. And the newsroom is located at pit level. And, hence Studio E was placed there too.

I was talking the second point at design phase why not build two identical studio's like C, I believe having a combined newsroom is good. I think C & E should have been the same design as having a barcode screen creates more opportunities, like in B, I've always preferred a skyline to a newsroom backdrop.

If I remember correctly, there was a preliminary plan for the NC and WN to both have their own dedicated studios in the pit / minus 1, meaning they’d both have the live newsroom as their backdrop, but from slightly different vantage points. I don’t know why that plan was later amended, however such uniformity across both channels and both studios might have grown stale by now and so perhaps it’s better that C and E don’t share the same backdrop.

Hm, but back then they were only simulcasting from 1-6am, and the studio with the overnight backdrop does make sense. These days with simulcasting being 7pm-6am and 10am-12pm, it does look slightly less uniform. Sign of the times however.

Well, a screen gives more flexibility and "opportunities" certaindly like you said but studio C wasn´t ever used that way. We always have had pratically the same uses and picture as the background since 2013.
In my opinion, Studio E with the newsroom view is far more superior than C. If they wish to make more use of the screens of the catwalk they may (in the future) rotate the desk for some bulletins in a similar way that Sky News did at the Glassbox at the beginning.

The only downside of E is that the newsroom itself offers a little less flexibility for future revamps of the studio.

E has options. We have seen that a curtain can be pulled across in front of the newsroom, that could be a green one, add the AR kit they use for The Papers and it might be possible to do something virtual.

They'd need to extend the Furio camera rails behind the desk to make better use of that position.

A height adjustable desk would be a nice idea as well, especially if Newsnight is going to remain in there.

Well World News came with a live background for over 15 years then they did some global minds survey and world news viewers have had that London background since 2013, before the pandemic there was variation so that background wasn’t on all the time but it’s now more noticeable because it’s on every time world news comes from studio c.

Someone must have decided though that bbc news channel has to have a live backdrop even a recording of it when it occupies Studio C.

Also can BBC World News sort out their pinkish red bbc world news logo box it’s a bit obvious it’s not the right red.

Oh god don’t give them ideas, they’re terrible at virtual studios.
