I went on a backstage tour of BBC News and i asked the tour guide if they are going to change N6?He told me that there is no point of revamping N6 as it reacently "adapted" to look similar to News 24 (The Frosted Plexi-Glass and red Staps). Wink

Also there are no plans to change other studios.

Seriously, the tour guides don't know about things like changes...

So as seen as Breakfast isn't moving to the N24 studio, as anticipated, then we are likely to see a new look set for the nationals as well in order to incorporate Breakfast, considering that if N6 stayed as it is then the whole programme would be presented from a space the same size as the newsdesk on Breakfast currently. It could work, but I personally think the programme would have to turn into a three hour national news bulletin as opposed to the current format of a summary of the day's news, sport, business, weather and entertainment in the morning.
Correct me if I am wrong but is it not true that there is a CSO screen behind the cameras in N6 (so opposite the desk) where the daytime updates are presented from? If so is there anyway of enlarging the whole set or, if large enough, placing the Breakfast set there?

Well there's at last a photo of the almost completed new BBC News Centre at Broadcasting House on Flickr...

BBC News Centre from 2008 onwards?

Can't seem to copy the pic or I'd have posted it here.

Facing the presenters in N6 to the left is the CSO curtain and to the right is the studio manager's desk. That's who Huw is often seen talking to at the end of the Ten O'Clock News.

Thanks for that. How large is this section of the studio? Is it large enough for a second set to be built there?

I wouldn't say so - not a sizeable set anyway... best solution would surely be a set that, as has been mentioned, can be changed cosmetically and visually with lighting / screens, etc.

The current BBC One set occupies more space than you see "on-air" because of the space required behind and to the sides of the set to accomodate the projectors. The current set is significantly bigger than the previous set, as it has more and larger projectors, which even with mirror-folding need a reasonable amount of space.

The original beige/red set DID co-exist in the studio with the smallest blue virtual set (which was moved from one of the three 6th floor news studios) - I think they were diagonally opposite each other.

It will be interesting to see what the new set looks like - and how the transition is handled.

No holds barred then.

Of course there should be a set re-design, I think thats universally accepted by anyone who's seen it.
Noggin, very weird hearing N6 is bigger, given the cream/red idea and the plastic fantastic approach, but of course it is bigger now, it just taken up by the moronically big screens.

I'd be interested in things to come.

It's been confirmed then - due to popular demand, the BBC has just announced that it is reviving this previous set, in view of the level of complaints about the current one! However, due to budegtary constraints, the new "old" set won't be operational until the start of the Financial (Fiscal) year next year.........first day of it, in fact.
