I think the current National Studio was really designed with the old cream titles in-mind-Wooden Floor...And not really anything like the news24 studio with the red plastic parts. Accept the screen walls. I think if you took the old set 1999-2003(?) and redecorated that with a news24 stylee. The studio would look more..Together with news24's look

The lowered studio lighting grid.. is that real? or can it go higher. Remember in the 1999 cream era, the studio seemed much higher...

What is the point of making it look like a shoe box?

Exactly. The Cream era looked a lot bigger than it actually was and yet one does get the impression now of a shoebox.

Turning to another point, The current National Studio ( N6) was designed before the News 24 relaunch and has tried to incorporate aspect of the new presentational direction into the design, but simply it fails. It's clearly fake and a plastic fantastic world of laminate flooring. Never liked the bloody thing and hope it's reviewed, and soon!

In some shots theres a grey rim round the top and thats the top of the studio i think. When they stand on the platform where the desk is i think if a presenter put there arm up they would be able to touch it. It Does look too small and cramped. I mean the studio is good because you can walk down the screen part but its just too small. I also thing the middle newsroom lookin screen should be used. They sometimes put writing/pics on there.

If you look between behind the desk and the newsroom background you can see a sort of distance between the two (like shown on the pic in the red circle)
In this distance i would have generated or real people walking down here to make it feel more real i have made one of my bad mock-ups to show how it would look

I really dont like the studio, on the first day I seen it, I looked once and then hoping to see it change for the 10, and it looked the same as the 6.

Then I seen the new look, same story. I was hoping that when they brough in the red and white bar infront of the screens that mabey they might do more of a balconey effect but no.

The desk looks well, IMO, but i feel its not suited at well. Wood cant be in there, nor can those horrid looking glowing panels, the whole thing looks a mess and it does put me off watching BBC News, as much as I love it

Perhaps a new background could improve things. Several posters on the BBC News thread have suggested using the newsroom (a la 1999-03). They do this on East Midlands Today for the breakfast and afternoon bulletins and some weekend bulletins (as seen here with Kathy Rochford).

This would be my preferred idea, but if they aren't keen on it, here are some others also based on the EMT presentation.

Perhaps they could use an image of the gallery in Stage VI like EMT do for their late bulletins (as shown here with Lukwesa Burak)

They could use something more generic like EMT do for the main programme which is (I think) of Nottingham's Victoria Centre.

Lastly, what about an image of the River Thames similar to the view used of the River Trent in Nottingham for the East Midlands Politics Show

Lighting grid isn't lower, it is just that the high-wide shot for the beige/red era set was in the lighting grid looking down - so showed you more floor and less ceiling than a frontal wide shot that is now used. The problem with the old high-wide was that it distorted the perspective of the projected backdrop, making it look horribly fake.

As for putting the Thames or a London Skyline in the backdrop - that would be inappropriate. The BBC National News is NOT the BBC London News - it shouldn't emphasise the fact it comes from London.

It's not in all studios (well only this one) which I hate! Shocked

There will probably some changes in store for the National News studio when some programme moves take place early next year.

What's meant by 'programme moves'? Will any of BH be ready that early.

I personally hate it. I loved the Virtual era though. Wish they would revert.

If the current backdrop theme is to continue, then an illuminated live nightime view of the Palace of Westminster would be brilliant, with discreet drop-ins in side camera angles for variety.

I know what I have just written above sounds naff (linguistically), but y'all know what I mean. Similar to the old News at Ten studio, when it was last double headed back in the early nineties.
