I love the current graphics! Much, much neater than before. From the past, the best graphics were from 1999, before they started fiddling in around 2002. The 2002-2003 ones were awful, in my opinion.

I agree. Looking back on them now I had forgotten how incredibly wasteful the space was on screen - the aston in that capture is probably one of the best examples of this.

See that looks great because it's a real newsroom and not that fake rubbish they use. The fake one is too clear whereas that one is nice and blurry making it look as if it's actually behind a sheet of glass. Plus the general clutter and business is far more pleasant than the occasional appearance of our three suited friends.

The only successful fake newsroom in my opinion is the old ITV News one, both the BBC1 and RS ones are dire. Quite why RS use a fake one when they have one of the nicest looking newsrooms around is beyond me (the random people who appear around the place always make me giggle though, nearly as much as theose absurd TVs on poles)

Also I have to agree about the sheer foulness of those old graphics. They are the second most vile thinks N24 have ever used. The recent "black on black" election graphics being the worst.

Of course. In the final few hours before the new News 24 set was unveiled in Dec '03, BBC News 24 and BBC World moved into N6, currently the national studio. They used a backdrop of the BBC World Newsroom in Stage VI at the News Centre. Previously, they had been using TC10 - the CSO backdrop (very effective looking) - before that day.

Actually, looking back, those graphics are actually extremely foul. How could I have been so stupid as to think they were nice?

World's newsroom is in Stage 5

Ah yes - thanks Hyma - it's BBC News 24's Newsroom that's in Stage VI isn't it. So why did News 24/World move to N6 overnight?

You're right about News 24 using TC10 for most of the few weeks before the relaunch. While they were shifting from N8, they used N9 as a temporary home (BBC World), and BBC World did their short weekend summaries from N6 (National). However, the night before the re-launch was due to happen, the News 24 studio was out of bounds, and BBC World had started doing a few rehearsals for their relaunch at 09.00. Hence, the only studio available was N6. They did the overnight news bulletins from in there (as pictured above), then Anita McNaught took over for BBC World until 09.00. After that, they went back to N9 as usual, with David Eades for the first new bulletin.

Because N24 had been in N9 (World) but they had to move out to move all the stuff back into the new N8 so both moved into N6 as both studios were out of action.

For reference here are some other shots of N6 with that backdrop.

Must say it's amazing how a different background can have such an affect on how a studio looks. That background makes the studio look much nicer than with the current background.

I'd say that the image above looks an awful lot better than national at the moment, they should definitely come up with something like that, if not use that (even though it's World's newsroom!)

I would prefer they use the real news centre as background like the previous studios...

Whether intentional or not, the slight variation in lighting along the different portions of the backwall help to maintain an illusion that there is more then one image. Fabulous backdrop anyway.
