The National News set is fine IMO - except for the background. It looks blurry and glazy in places; they should perhaps use a recording of the existing news centre, but do some doctoring to it, changing colours in some places to make it fit in with the rest of the set, and perhaps some other editing to make it look OK on the three back projectors.

I think the current Breakfast set just doesn't work for a morning mixed programme like Breakfast, it would suit a business programme I think, especially with the BA HQ background. They should have a new set, that uses more warmer colours like light brown, wood panels, beige (though used differently to the first Breakfast set) and light and dark reds.

BBC News has gone to all the lengths to make their output look 'fresh', but it's not working. The sets for Breakfast and Nationals are awful, the only refuge we have is if we watch News 24, where we get footage of real people working in a real newsroom. But this shot just says it all doesn't it.

Beautiful. Elegant, and less in-your-face and fake as today's.

EDIT: One question: did the studio lights change according to the time of day? 'Cos when I look at the old 'One' studio it looks brighter than the 'Ten' Studio.

I much prefered the updated version, when more red was introduced, now that was class, and the news centre looked absolutely stunning in the background.

Yes that set was fantastic!
I think all they did with the lights they may of dimmed them ever-so slightly, but i wouldnt be sure on that.

That was a brilliant set, wasn't it? That was my all-time favourite studio - the 2002-2003 one was OK, but the original one with the "8" desk was fantastic. Why can't it be like that now? It seems they changed it for no reason whatsoever - it was by no means broken!

I don't know about the lighting for different bulletins, although thinking back, I always remember the One O'clock News being quite bright, and the Ten being darker, but that might not have been the lighting in the studio. I do remember in the year and a bit they did the Nine O'clock News from that set, they used to dim the lights right down - almost completely off - but kept the desk lights on full for the closing shot. Looked wonderful. Sadly, that touch went out with the arrival of the Ten in October 2000.

The BBC News set needs a thorough overhaul and should be revamped properly. I hate the fake set, it's irritating.

An updated background (ie. re-recorded), and a few minor set & lighting tweaks should be enough to do the trick. Anyway the current set is still better than Sky News Laughing

Quite liked the swoop at the start of the Six. I don't think a new set is needed, I think the only thing that needs an overhaul is the fake newsroom, it's awful.

That swing at 6.15 was nice too. It wasn't as smooth as N24s one though but it was nice nonetheless.

I think all N6 needs is a new backdrop as the current one is what lets it down, not the set itself.

I'm personally a fan of the red set with thpse lovely lights behind the screen and that black bar of halogens round the top of it. Such a shame both those sets were too small to do any fancy swoopy shots in,
