During the 2001 election the same thing happened, presented by Chris Eakin. Eakin, at that point, before Bill left 1-4 didn't have a slot since he'd lost his when Breakdast started in 2000. The conference coverage worked really well and was quite entertaining; for some reason with Willcox this time round it didn't seem to work quite as well.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should get World in the morning on News 24. But I assume World has filler progs in the back half hours? Might News 24 get some criticism if it used filler progs for half of every hour during 6-9, when people will complain they need news?

I think its more that BBC World have to break for commercials, something which the BBC isn't allowed to do so there would need to be a filler of some type - Like TWT which uses clever breaks, but for three hours it would be a problem.
Would I be right in thinking that BBC World have something called European Breakfast?

Joel.
Yes it's European Breakfast, I guess they maybe a problem with commercials, because they are more like opt-outs now, so viewers in Asia could be watching a news story, whilst Europe receive's advertisements, but I still think N24 could stick with the newsroom feed, they wouldn't necessilarily need to provide UK news as Breakfast would cater for this. The real problem is Sport Today, that would have to go.

After thinking about it for a while and deciding which presenters would be good together and be suited to bulletins, I have made up my ideal presenter line-up for the National News and BBC News 24.

Firstly, Anna Ford and Peter Sissons have retired.
There is a major overhaul of presenters being swapped around on the National News
And I have given presenters on News 24 who should have permanent slots...permanent slots.

Dermot Murnaghan and Moira Stuart - Monday-Wednesday
Darren Jordon and Sophie Raworth - Thursday-Friday
Sian Williams would takeover Moira's current job as the newsreader

Some good ideas especially on News 24 (but did you really have to post it three times?? Wink )

So, you would have different Breakfast programmes on N24 and BBC One - what differences would you make between them??

Also, on a note of practicality, you have no relief presenters - what would you do if presenters were on holiday?? ....and Anna Jones on the Ten O'Clock News ....????!!!!

And finally, where are Simon McCoy and Peter Dobbie? My preference would be to see Peter Dobbie do the afternoon shift, and then use Simon and Jon Sopel as roving presenters on the major stories. But overall, a good effort Very Happy

A lot of complete and utter nonsense. Anna Jones on the Ten?????? Ten extended to one hour??????? Anna Ford to retire????? KAPLINSKY ON THE SIX?????? Have you completely lost your head, man? Sian Williams replacing Moira, and Moira moving to be lead presenter on Breakfast...........hey.............hang on a minute!!! Did you say Moira would take over as one of the lead presenters on Breakfast??????? Wow.......I like it after all. Haha.

"And so, they got rid of Natasha and Sian, and promoted me to the sofa......not before time, I say!!!"

I'd immediately promote Karin to the 6 o'clock news, where I think she would become an instant hit with the wider public, but then i'm completely biased.

With regard to the Natioanl Programmes I'd immediately move Sophie Raworth to Breakfast, sack Natasha Kaplisky Reshape Breakfast into a News and Current affairs programme.

Mike Embly and Jane Hill would move to the One - After Anna has left, of course.

The Six would become a full 30 minute programme with focus on International news - I'd have Adrain Finagan for some days and Kirsty Lang presenting with the return of the Six Breifing.

The Ten would become a 45 minute programme followed by regional news, It would also look at other news outlets around the world, Ala BBC 3 News. It would also have a business update and a look at the early morning papers, as well as its own special investigation.
I'd have Peter Sissions return as stand in and Kirsty Wark as main presenter.

I know this is all fantasy but you do realise that if you demoted Sophie Raworth back to Breakfast she would probably resign and go somewhere else? Not that I'd mind.

That's the problem with BBC News - there is too much of a hierarchy, where Breakfast and News 24 are seen as the bottom of the pile, and the National News as the top. There shouldn't be that, at least I don't think there should be so much of it, with Sky News it is much less obvious.

what about presenters like Jane Hill or Maxine Mawhinney? Chris Eakin? Darren Jordon? Jon Sopel?

Don't think Dermot Murnaghan would suit News 24.
