what shifts would you have News 24 presenters on together (i.e. Anna Jones and Phil Hayton 9-1pm)

would you change the current lineup?

I have to say that presenters such as Kate Silverton, Tim Willcox, Susanna Reid should be given permanent slots.

Well I don't usually go for these types of thread, but I would like to see a more world-ie feel to the channel.
Possibly moved Mike Embly, Steven Cole and Adrian Finiagan over also bring Mishal Hussian and Darishey (Sp Confused ) David over.
Other than that I think the current system works quite well, although I would review Peter Sissons in the afternoon, maybe more early morning/ Breakfast role.

Darshini David(I think thats right), yeah she brings a really calm style to proceddings, Adrian Finigan I really do rate as a presenter, and I think should be on News 24 probably where Peter Dobbie is at present.

I'd probably denote the morning proceedings on News 24 to a more International feel, like when we join the World Newsroom at 9.30. Possibly Mishal and the Dobster, And I'd be moving them around alot more, like in the afternoon when they go into the newsroom.

I would go one step further, and instead of simulcasting Breakfast, I would simulcast BBC World News(TWT) for those three hours, I think this would give UK viewers more choice, but of course World viewers would lose Sport Today.

As now, but swap Phil and Chris on weekdays. I realise that goes against the idea of having a "face" in every slot (i.e. a BBC One approved face), but I really think Phil Hayton would be better suited to the evening slot. I think he'd probably work better with Jane as well rather than Anna Jones whom he seems to regard, like me, as quite erm, well you know..

There was one occassion not long ago when Phil did 4-7 with Jane and they worked really well together.

You are not getting Adrian Finighan, and that's that!!!!!!! (Throw's toys from the pram in nervous fashion........) He's ours!!! Haha.

Yes, Adrian is indeed an EXCELLENT presenter. However, I also rate Phil Hayton highly, but for other reasons. Entirely different style, but exceptional broadcaster too.

I did suggest this on the NewsWatch website but was told that due to BBC World commercial activities it would be "unrealistic".
I think it would be a brilliant idea myself, as having one programme on two channels seems an awful waste when there could be an alternative and one which is already been broadcast. It would certainly raise News 24's profile.

Hello Matrix, i've never understood why News 24 have to simulcast Breakfast, because viewers who want to watch it can watch it on BBC One with their own local news programme, I really think News 24 should have a re-think and broadcast with BBC World and provide an alternative to UK viewers which at present dosen't exist.

Theres that infamous quote "Choice and diversity" Huh!
During the election when News 24 broke away from Breakfast for news conferences, etc.... it worked rather well - even managed a Willcox fill - in.
Anway that flaming Kaplinsky women drives me wild...

During the 2001 election the same thing happened, presented by Chris Eakin. Eakin, at that point, before Bill left 1-4 didn't have a slot since he'd lost his when Breakdast started in 2000. The conference coverage worked really well and was quite entertaining; for some reason with Willcox this time round it didn't seem to work quite as well.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should get World in the morning on News 24. But I assume World has filler progs in the back half hours? Might News 24 get some criticism if it used filler progs for half of every hour during 6-9, when people will complain they need news?

I think its more that BBC World have to break for commercials, something which the BBC isn't allowed to do so there would need to be a filler of some type - Like TWT which uses clever breaks, but for three hours it would be a problem.
Would I be right in thinking that BBC World have something called European Breakfast?

Joel.
