The box suited the space in which it occupied, i.e was just tall enough and added an extra dimension to the set. The problem with the new desk is that it is too high, and has managed to get into several shots presented from the screen, it is also a bit disproportionate on the reflection of the studio, which is incredibly small.

The box was fine, so is the new desk but it just looks out of place.

The new one looks an awkward height - somewhere in between a proper desk and a coffee table. The old one was clearly a coffee table, which was fine, but this one just looks a bit wrong.

Well, seeings as the "Oxford" region has a fully-separate 2225 bulletin, why not?
As the Southampton programme must still be the default "fallback" if the Oxford bulletin is ever unavailable (due to technical problems etc), maybe they'd revert to the "region-wide" titles for the 2225, out of respect for "Oxford" viewers? (If they had enough prior warning of Oxford's imminent unavailability).
Arguably, the 1830 programme could get away with also using the "Oxford"-excluding titles, as the title sequence itself is only seen by viewers from Berkshire southwards, as "Oxford" viewers don't join in until at least 1840.
This makes me wonder if Look East (East) has an "east"-biased title sequence at 2225?
Well they have now been using these new titles on South Today at 18:30, maybe they were meant to be using them from the start? Seems a bit odd to just start using them now...

South Today have a different version of their opening credits now. On last nights late news (10:25) there were no "Oxford" area names included, instead more place names from the rest of the region, I noticed Guildford popping up...

I always though that having a "sub-brand" (such as "Close Up" was) seemed a bit messy. After all, the 2225 bulletin is also an east/west split, yet only ever used the main "Look East" brand.
To have the "middle 10(ish)-minutes" of the 1830 programme use a different "title" to the overall programme seemed a bit disjointed to me. So, I think it's good that it's now all just plain old "Look East", regardless of whether pan-regional or sub-regional.
This is what I find odd about them introducing the "BBC Oxford News" title. Previously, viewers in the sub-region had some sort of "South Today" branding at all times (albeit that the Oxford-based bits would also shoehorn the word "Oxford" on as a suffix/prefix etc).
Now they get two totally different titles during a single half-hour - exclusively "BBC Oxford News" for first half of the programme, then exclusively "South Today" for the second half! Messy.

Clearly, a Banbury-to-the Isle of Wight region is too big to have just a single news service, yet the "Oxford" region is too small to have a fully stand-alone region, hence the "one-and-a-half-regions" situation.
Surely it would be more logical to follow ITV's example, and add Hannington to the Oxford programme's region, thus forming a fully stand-alone "BBC Thames Valley" type region, and have BBC South mirroring ITV Meridian (South)'s current coverage area.
Whatever else you may think about ITV regional news programmes, at least their choice of geographical boundaries seems more sensible than the BBC (forthcoming ITV proposals notwithstanding). The BBC once had the unbelievably oversized Newsroom South East region, for goodness sake! How that "South East" uber-region was ever conceived, I'll never know. Even more shocking that it took until the 21st Century for them to finally realise it was too big and needed disbanding.

It maybe that London organised the titles and didn't take into account the local variations. E.g. Look East always had a "Close Up" sting - that seems to have been replaced with a "Look East" sting. Though the decision could have been taken to use this to increase branding.

It's the same with BBC Channel Islands (previously Spotlight Channel Islands).
