Even North West Tonight was called Look North.

Look North West to be precise, but I still hear occassionally from the elderly folk Look North, rather than North West Tonight.

It was Look North when there was a single programme coming from Holme Moss for the whole of the north of England. Not sure whether this was received as far north as Newcastle's patch?

The South Today ones are not that great & the place names seem to be a bit screwed up. BBC Oxford, as it's now known, has it's own opening titles with local place names, but South Today (Southampton) also has loads of "Oxford" place names, including some which are not even in the region (Milton Keynes & Tring spring to mind!) I'm sure Ramsgate is in there somewhere too & Dorset seems to be only represented by Bournemouth & Poole... Rolling Eyes

Don't forget that Oxford being a sub-opt means that at weekends, breakfast, 1 o'clock and on Bank Holidays the Southampton programme goes out in the Oxford region, hence why South Today's titles include place names from the Oxford region. I'd agree that Tring is a bit fringe-y, but the Oxford Transmitter is receivable in large parts of Milton Keynes, a chunk of Swindon, bits of Gloucestershire, even as far as Cirencester.

Cirencester has its own relay of Mendip, not Oxford.

Yes but the nature of terrestrial television signals is that there will always be pockets where the nearest (and intended) transmitter or relay isn't the strongest. In fringey areas like Gloucestershire, Milton Keynes, Tring, etc., you'll always find people who don't necessarily watch the tv region you'd assume they would! Oxford's region being pretty small and their willingness to cover fringey stories is why they opted to put MK, Tring etc on their titles.

On the MK issue, it's true that a lot of people who live there cannot put aerials up, so get TV from cable (is it still analogue cable? certainly was until fairly recently) or satellite. Those viewers as noggin rightly says, get Look East (West) with London as an option. The argument as to why BBC Oxford cover MK is a bit tenuous...!

Fair enough if the South Today Oxford opt can be received in Milton Keynes & Tring,, but if those places are in the extreme reception fringes of the region is it really worth including their names in the titles?
Why then do they not include Weymouth, Shaftesbury, Abbotsbury, Bridport etc.. as these areas are on the fringe & areas around these can receive South Today as well? Weymouth even has BBC South on Sky as does Guildford, despite the local relays receiving BBC South West & BBC London respectively...

I didn't know Guildford got BBC South on Sky - how come we are still stuck with BBC London in Reigate then? I wonder if there is a reliable guide anywhere showing which postcode gets which region - I know of this page: http://www.ukfree.tv/bbcsky.php - but I'm not convinced as to how accurate or up to date it is; for one it shows the Guildford post codes as being in the London region.

Well yes -- apparently Bury, Ashton-under-Lyne and Bridgwater all enjoy receiving BBC Wales.

What we need is somebody who's an expert on postcodes to put them right. <wink>

So one week after this Thread was launced are all the BBC TV English Regional News Opening Titles Theme Music now the same or diiferent still in regions ?

Did somebody say that BBC London was different to everybody elses ?

If this is true how do they get away with that ?
SE
Seb
BBC London was different for a few days, but is now using the inferior music all the other regions do for the opening rather than the Newsroom South East remix Wink

Why are all the BBC TV English Regional News Opening Titles Theme Music diiferent in regions ?

When I say different I mean in the way that some have pips at the end of the titles as is in the case of BBC East Midlands Today and some don't if you know what I mean as in the case of BBC Midlands Today, BBC London and BBC Look North etc

Why do all the endings of the opening titles music diiffer in some way or another ?

Also is the closing theme music different in regions or all the same ?

So much for a coherent look with this new look rebrand etc if regions don't stick to it

Many of the postcodes on that site are not accurate at all & a lot of postcodes are missing too. Also the transmitter reception maps on that site are not that accurate either, though the guy who runs the website did tell me they were computer generated & were roughly what the reception "should" be...

It is strange how many areas of the country receive completely different regions on Sky as to what they receive on analogue, though I suppose they can now define their regional boundaries to exactly where they want them...

A tiny little difference that I can barely notice is what you're worried about? I think it's too coherent if anything...

May be only a little difference but there obviously are some variations to the ending last ten seconds or so of the BBC TV English Regional News Opening Titles Theme Music because some are using the version composed by David Lowe which was also the version uploaded on the BBC TV News Website ( Using BBC London Titles ) and some are are using a somehow different version

Also the closing theme music is different in some regions once again some are using the version composed by David Lowe lasting about two minutes and once again some are using a somewhat different version
