Sky News is one channel, Al Jazeera is about 4 channels, BBC is 4 TV News Channels (admittedly BBC NC and WN have shared resources) but are we forgetting the technical crews for 3 TV operations and the other 27 Radio Languages.

Yes it's the number of outlets and languages that makes the difference. Add to that the number of locations and it all mounts up.

Sky and AJ would probably have had English and Arabic language reporters there, AJ maybe another language too. The BBC can't do that, they even had someone in SA reporting in Welsh at one point.

The BBC is the de-facto broadcaster of record in the UK and in many places overseas too, and therefore has to have the necessary funds to do that. The Mandela Coverage has been commensurate with the person and indeed as has been mentioned has different groups to address. The arguments go on always, they simply show that those making them have no grasp of these issues. Unfortunately some of these people are in authority too.
