Would there also be rights issues in terms of which outlets could use footage and packages? There might be items that CBS were happy to be shown on the domestic output but less, so if it turned up on World News America?

Almost certainly - the ABC deal had different rules for BBC domestic and BBC international outlets (particularly when it came to ABC reporters)

I've seen many reports on World with both ABC correspondents and journalists at their affiliates. Almost atleast once a week.

Yes - note I didn't say BBC international outlets couldn't couldn't run ABC reporter-led reports, just that the rules were different.

From memory, at one point, BBC domestic outlets got priority over US local affiliates for bespoke lives from US correspondents, and were second only to ABC network outlets, but BBC international outlets didn't (I'm not sure what live access BBC international outlets got)

Not sure if BBC international had access to the generic 'clock start' lives (i.e. non bespoke) - but I remember BBC domestic outlets taking them too.

BBC reports and reporters used to appear daily on ABC News Now, especially on their weekday programme World View. Also BBC World News used to appear on ABC News Now during international breaking news.

TL;DR: it's possible BBC and CBS have already set up their newsroom systems to talk to each other, but even if they haven't, there are more manual ways of still sharing content immediately.

Yes, a simple vision circuit between the two is the easiest to set up, and I believe what they have in place.

Amazing. An evening newscast is relying on an overseas broadcaster for coverage of a part of its own country.

Not saying that CBS wouldn't have mobilised resources themselves to cover Irma, but nevertheless it's still a weird arrangement. Could you imagine a CBS News story playing on the BBC News at Six, about evacuations in the UK?

Not the case at all. The island of Barbuda is not part of the US. It's part of a sovereign nation called Antigua & Barbuda, and its head of state is... our own Queen Elizabeth II. Antigua & Babuda is part of the Commonwealth.

I'm not sure about Antigua & Barbuda but several nations in the carribean there some have affiliates of the big three US networks. That being said I don't think they produce any significant newscasts (or would be of any use to the networks).

On BBC 5 Live's "Up all Night" programme (at least when Rhod Sharp was presenting), an ABC bulletin was always played at 2.05am (ever since 1994). Recently, however, this has changed to CBS.

It always used to be every weeknight and was the Midnight (UK time) bulletin. An ISDN was dialled, the bulletin recorded and the ads edited out ready to be played at 2:05am.

Rhod Sharp's intros into that are excellent, almost poetic.
