Slightly mixed up chronology there. Sian was actually a launch presenter on News 24 (1600-1900 weekdays ISTR with Gavin Esler?). Prior to launch she was due to be a Strand Editor or Asst Editor on the channel - but was persuaded to move in front of camera. To reach Editor or Asst Ed level you have to be a very experienced production journalist - and Sian was. (ISTR that she had worked for at least 10 years as a reporter and producer in local and network radio - including stints as a producer on Today and WATO. AIUI she joined the BBC straight out of Uni)

I wasn't aware of her work at radio, so credit where credit is due. And in regards to the strand/ assistant editor bit, it was my understanding she had been working in that capacity prior to launch and had become a presenter (through someone not turning up for a screen test, I believe) quite close to the launch date itself.

My point was simply that to suggest Emma Crosby was unqualfied in (an apparently) similar way to Kate Silverton would be unfair, and she has proven herself pre-GMTV to be a good journalist.

And as Schwing pointed out, she was brought in to present alongside Simon McCoy who I doubt many on here would argue shouldn't be appearing on BBC 1 as he's a lightweight...

And to continue what others have said (just looking back in the posts before my own) I think one of the reasons Emma Crosby's reputation was tarnished by GMTV was the press attention the job brings. Penny Smith and Kate Garraway, for example, have always received far more tabloid attention (often negative attention) than their counterparts at Sky or the BBC have.

I think for this reason and for GMTV's actual image and credibility, it's a good thing Emma got away from GMTV and Daybreak.

Emma Crosby worked for CNBC Europe long before GMTV or Sky News, and she was damn good there. She is definitely a very competent broadcaster and will be very good for BBC News channel, as she has already proved.

I presume BBC World are showing a recording as he started with 'Good evening'.

I can't remember, during his time with the ITV News Channel, did Chris Rogers present ITV News on ITV1 at any point?

Well that was odd this is the BBC News at 10, even when the programme is normally on at 10 on a saturday it is never referred onscreen as being as the programme only runs from Sunday to Friday, yet the News at 10 titles were just played. Incidently other than Breakfast and World News America this is the first use of non default news titles of the strike.

The normal titles for the 10 were used yesterday, not for the 6 and 1 though.

followed by 11-12midnight World News, did that not happen last night iirc

Last night at 11pm was World News America from Washington - that is not broadcast on Saturdays so not an option today

Ben posted:
Apart from yesterday afternoon did Emma actually appear at any other time? I get the feeling she may have been down to do an afternoon shift yesterday anyway.

Maybe, but I would be surprised if she was due to do the News at One so its likley she took on some additional duties

Exactly, most people posting seem to only remember her as a business reporter for Sky and then a GMTV presenter forgetting all the years of rolling news she did at Sky. That experience has to show and it did yesterday.

Indeed. For example she was one of those who collected Sky's BAFTA for the Glasgow Airport attack coverage

He certainly did a few ITV1 bulletins - including but not exclusively the Morning News.

And with Alistair Yates presenting the midnight hour, the strike is over. For now, at least.
