all new Phil
I thought Kaddy Lee Preston was fab on South East Today. Slightly reminiscent of the mad woman off The Apprentice a few years back.

It is nice to see a proper ending instead of the usual abrupt switch, why can't they do this all the time? Rolling Eyes

Because people switch over during the closing titles whereas they stay with the channel when there is a straight hand. The lack of closing titles is designed to make the shows feel more integrated - rather than two separate programmes (in the same way as the integrated headlines and promos do)

Thomas doing weather, I thought he was fired in the last weather cuts? Shocked

He wasn't fired, I believe Tomasz is still employed by the Met Office (along with Phil Avery and Rob McElwee) but after the recent round of contract negotiations I believe the Met have decided to shift him to off-screen duties. When these changes kick in I don't know.

Emma & Chris are left then once Gavin has finished.

I hope Emma presents the BBC One updates at 5.20pm and the late bulletin.

Unless Peter Dobbie returns, which he did yesterday.

Out of interest, who do we think would come off worse for their actions in career terms? A so called "scab" like Emma Crosby, or a very public protester like Newsnight's Paul Mason?

Difficult to compare them - Paul Mason is very well respected (and presumably staff with a major interest in ensuring his pension isn't slashed) with a strong track record in original and distinctive journalism. He's also father of an NUJ chapel I believe?

Emma Crosby is a freelance presenter with a moderately successful background (though hasn't taken the best career choices in the past possibly) - but I have no idea of her journalist credentials. She looks good on camera (though possibly a bit too 'glam' for the BBC - her clothing choices are a bit GMTV) and reads well - but doesn't have a regular position on any major broadcast outlet - so presumably needs the work.

And I completely understand your points, and I'm aware of Paul Mason's track record. It was interesting to see him very publicly confronting Mark Byford in front of photographers and I wondered how upper management might perceive this type of behaviour.

In regards to Emma Crosby, I get the impression Emma Crosby has easily as much credibility as BBC presenters like Louise Minchin or Kate Silverton, who are both seen quite highly at the Beeb these days. Casting aside her (relatively short) spell at GMTV, Emma had become quite respected at Sky and a fairly experienced business presenter and correspondent at Sky and CNBC.

Also, I seem to remember a lot of tabloid attention when she joined GMTV about her 'old-lady' fashion sense. Funny how things change.

I suspect the attitude to long-standing freelance colleagues who have just honoured their contracts and done nothing more will be different to those more 'random' people who have decided to cover the shifts of others who have decided not to come in.

oh noggin noggin noggin, don't be so naïve. You're forgetting the number one rule of media employment as defined in the TV Forum rota obsessive's handbook.

If anyone should appear on the BBC News Channel, even if for just a moment, then it is evidence of them being tried out for the Ten O'Clock News.

Now stop with all this nonsense about the BBC being like any other workplace Wink

Not sure if this has anything to do with the stike but after Eastenders last night the BBC Four end credits squeeze (the black gradient one) was used; then the background animated away leaving the coming up boxes and the video without a background before the announcer cut back to the credits.
