I wouldn't think Peter would be in the journalists union, what with his cheesy DJ background.

And yet - as someone pointed out to me yesterday - the likes of Richard Bacon have been absent despite being little more than a presenter. Not that I have a problem with this, but would someone like that really be a member of the NUJ?

You don't have to be a member of the NUJ to have a problem crossing a picket line. I know a number of non-union presenters who won't do it out of principle.

And that's true, though those who are absent and aren't entitled to strike action through their union are breaking a whole heap of laws and rules.

Out of interest, who do we think would come off worse for their actions in career terms? A so called "scab" like Emma Crosby, or a very public protester like Newsnight's Paul Mason?

Hi

I have unfortunately missed all of the action from the strike today, I only noticed the change of presenter on BBC Breakfast. I have just spent the last hour reading through the entire forum here.

So, a few questions:
Did the regions opt out at breakfast?
Did the regions opt out after 1 and 6
Anything from BBC South cause I haven't seen anything

No opt outs during breakfast
5 minute opt outs after one and six
And I can't answer your last question!!

Who are we all betting will do the Ten?

Also, any thoughts on who will be appearing tomorrow? Gavin said he'd be back on Breakfast tomorrow. You'd think with the programme being 4 hours long he'd have a co-presenter. Naga maybe?

My bet's on Rogers.

I'd imagine similar shifts tomorrow, though without Simon McCoy in the morning.

What sort of time is the late shift usually at the weekends considering the strike ends at midnight. I guess though practically it's not possible for someone to be on strike one minute, back behind the desk the next - there is more to this newsreading lark than reading the news so we're told!

Compared to last time around the BBC have handled this rather well.

A lot of people seem to have assumed that Emma wasn't scheduled to present today. Although she wouldn't have been down to do the One O'Clock news, given there was a half hour filler straight after I think she may well have been another freelancer who turned up because they were contracted to work?

The presenter is Peter Dobbie, used to be a regular on News 24 up until a few years ago, now presents on BBC World News.

I've also noticed a lack of ticker, just the Clock and DOG showing only...

There was a ticker on the BBC News Channel today. Noticed it when Chris Rodgers was presenting.

The 9pm hour does have a very international feeling to it, which obviously means it is simulcasting with BBC World News.

Repeat of last weekends 'Weather Show' now.

Did wonder whether this might pop up?

The Weather Show now on BBC News.

Peter Dobbie just said they'll be back with the Ten O' Clock News at the top of the hour, I wonder if he'll be presenting, I can't imagine it'll be Chris Rodgers again, he was doing his radio newsreading (sorry can't remember the name of the station) in the early hours this morning
