This Wild Weather filler is going out in the nations too - would have though they would be able to show something more relevant.

I'm sure there was a slot a while back one evening for the English Regions. I believe Chris Bell from WeatherQuest presented the BBC East edition while he was covering for Julie Reigner.
That's right, Peter Cockroft presented the London edition and Kaddy Lee-Preston in the South East.

Thank you 'm_in_m' and Steve. Wild Weather seems to be a regional programme?

Is there Nations continuity?

I can't see any reason to think there wouldn't be.
EDIT: Yeah, they're all playing different trails at the moment.

Could the problem be finding filler content to fill the slot. It appears that Wild Weather is a 25 minute programme - presumably because it previously ran in the 1930 slot.

I think it needed to then be edited down to fill 6.35pm - 6.56 or whatever pm the opt back is. Maybe each region couldn't do that task themselves, or just too risky
They might have at least run the appropriate Wild Weather show for each region. It was originally in the Monday 7.30pm slot a couple of months back.
