If they want the money and boost their careers, I'm sure they won't mind presenting in the middle of a strike.

Yes - because Stephen Cole, Akhtar Khan and Susan Osman had glittering career boosts at the BBC when they presented during the strike in 2005.

Don't forget that many BBC managers, although required to work based on their seniority, may actually support the reasons for the strike, and be in full sympathy with their striking colleagues... Presenters who agree to break a strike often don't get undying respect and thanks from management...

I think I could remember one more, Martine Croxall.
Didn't she present during one of the BBC Strikes?

So will Simon McCoy get the same treatment now that he's broke the strike? Hope not, he's really good.

According to a previous post a few pages back he's not a member of that union so therefore he's not broken the strike - he's just turned up to work as normal.

So is the BBC News channel and BBC World News simulcast?

Yes but World only shows first 30 minutes and then a taped show.

No. Akhtar Khan did 0100 until the mid morning, Susan Osman took over and did the One and a couple of hours, and Stephen Cole in the evening including the Six and Ten.

With the 2005 strike was it all unions striking? This time it's only the NUJ workers who are officially striking, though I imagine colleague of other unions are supporting them even if they're working normal hours.

I wonder what they'll do with tonight's news at 6. Last time I seem to recall the national & regional news was shown but taking up only half hour, with the regional news being only 5-10 minutes long. Will be interesting to see if they put a 'filler' programme in at 6:30pm, or try and make the One Show an hour long (though that would require some advanced planning/preparation).

Last time there was a strike it was NUJ and Bectau unions. I remember in the London region last time we only managed a 2 minute news bulletin after the 10.

If anyone would like to relive the 2005 strike in excruciating detail, here's 74 pages of TV Forum Gold*

[edit] - skip to page 44 for what happened in the regions at 6.30. Note that the time zones are a bit confused, so add an hour.

* nb: may not fetch you much money if you send it to Cash4Gold

I'm sure during the last strike Look North Hull got something out early evening. IIRC Peter Levy still showed up for work

BBC Press saying that the One will be full length.

With the news channel just about able to fill a full hour so far, no surprise really that the half hour One will go ahead

I guess the BBC1 daytime updates are dropped today?
