Good to see Tim Willcox doing the national at 1730. Is this a first? Another sterling week for the main man: covering the 2230-0100 for Chris Eakin, in addition to his "regular" Friday night and Sunday morning slots. All of which means he's been on every day this week!

Don't forget his Saturday morning N24 and BBC One shift.

Next Saturday the 'early evening' news on BBC One will be a 5 minute bulletin at 3.20pm. Ridiculous!

I presume it will just be like the weekday 3.20 news update. It's not a bad bulletin as it provides a quick summary of the main headlines both nationally and regionally but not really appropriate as an early evening bulletin.

They should be showing a bulletin at 6pm instead of the latest Graham Norton vehicle

I know, I enjoyed seeing Chris Lowe on BBC1 again. He was a refreshing change from the younger presenters on BBC1 nowadays. I'd like to see Chris Lowe present more BBC1 bulletins, along with Peter Sissons. Of the current BBC1 line-up of presenters, I only really like Huw Edwards and George Alagiah. I think that BBC1 should make more use of 'old school' presenters, mainly because they are the most experienced.

Great to see Tim on the 17.30 bulletin on 1 tonight, fantastic stuff.

It's not a first - he did the national Sunday lunchtime bulletin towards the end of last year, even doing the first half of his N24 Sunday morning shift before he moved to N6! It's good to see that he is getting plenty of exposure - well deserved.

Also, Chris Lowe on BBC 1 was very welcome tonight, it's been a long time.

Im sure Tim Willcox on at 5.30 and then Chris Lowe on at 10 wasn't planned, according to the Radio Times it should have been Fiona Bruce - i presume she called in sick.

Eugh - what have they done to the new headline strap? It's now got a black background and tacked onto the right of the globe graphic. Looks awful.

[edit]... and here it is...

Even Emily appears to be turning her nose up at it.

They can't leave new things alone can they - and they always tinker with the wrong things!

That is pretty dreadful. I don't see why they need it at all really - I think most people get the grasp of the story from what the newsreader says, not two words in the corner of the screen!
