The BBC One News "teatime" bulletin goes out at 8:05pm tomorrow evening.

It's absurd, and for no reason other than to make sure that it goes out against Coronation Street which is half an hour late due to the Grand Prix.

What is the problem with scheduling a normal bulletin at the traditional time on a Sunday ?

Yes I can't understand the need to put a news bulletin up against a soap either.

The Sunday bulletins on BBC1 are, and have been for quite some time now, a complete joke. There is such a long gap since the late morning bulletin and there is such a short gap until the late bulletin. What is wrong with the late afternoon slot, like on a Saturday? It's not as if any of the programmes BBC1 air on a Sunday are worth keeping at their timeslots, if at all IMO.

I don't watch Coronation Street, but the others in my household do, so I can never watch the teatime bulletin on a Sunday on BBC1. But I really do find the BBC's need to put the bulletin up against this programme absolutely absurd.

The news has been moved because all the shedule has been moved 30 minutes later so the Chase goes out at exactly the same time as Britain's got Talent and How we built Britain goes out at the same time as Talk to Me. So basically the BBC are trying to dent itv's hopes of big audiences, itv did when Holby Blue started by putting it up against Midsommer Murders. The BBC are also putting other big programmes up aginst Britain's Got Talent like Daziel and Pascoe on Thursday and Friday - which is totally out of it's usual timeslot of 9pm on Sundays and Mondays.

Slightly off topic, but does any other region have one presenter covering both the local Politics Show & the later regional news bulletin, like Mike Collie at BBC Birmingham.

Isn't the news scheduled against Coronation Street as it's the only programme that can do alright in the ratings with Coronation Street? I heard that the Sunday evening news got around 3 million viewers, which is the highest a BBC programme has been able to do against the Sunday edition of Coronation Street.

Thanks for mentioning that otherwise I would have missed it. Surprisingly for the programmes I actually want to watch we don't get bombarded with promos and annos saying when it's on.

The bulletin gets between 4 and 5 million viewers each week.

Yes, in Northern Ireland the PS presenter Jim Fitzpatrick usually stays on to do the 'early-evening' Newsline bulletin.
