I was watching Breakfast this morning and when she said ''we'll now join the newsteams where you are'' aproximately 10 minutes ago it switched to London news instead of South Today. It switched to south today about an hour before and I haven't changed the settings. Was this a mistake? What I do know is that I don't want no thunderstorm here!

Just simulcast 1/2hour of N24 at 1pm and call it...um....News 24 Today

Then what's the point in getting rid of the 1 if you're going to put a bullitin there anyway? All it would do is cause oo-ah when they had breaking news or something which needs to be broadcast live because NEWS 24 needs to opt-out.

I always thought the 6 got more viewers than the 10...?

This should be in the Breakfast thread...

Exactly. IMO if one of the bulletins had to go then the 1 could go and be replaced with a five minute headline summary including regional news (as per 3.20 News Update).

No I'm sure the 10 always got more than the 6.

As the figures show, if one bulletin had to go, there would be less damage if the 1 went.

No, till about 2005 the six was the highest rated news program in the UK but since then the ten has overtaken it.

You can not just look at how many people are watching the show, you have to look at the share too:

the One: 3 million - 40-45%
the Six: 4 million - 20%
the Ten: 4.5 million - 20-25%

The one is ALWAYS the highest show in its timeslot whereas the ten is normally the highest show in its timeslot. Not sure about the six.

Surely - this is a pointless discussion. It ain't gonna happen is it.

NEWS24 is there as a seperate rolling service. It will continue.

1 o'clock news - the largest share of TV audience at that time of day. It will continue.

6 o'clock news. A british institution. Public service broadcasting. It will continue.

10 o'clock news. Well established timeslot for the main evening news. popular, large audience. Public service broadcasting. It will continue.

The 3 main BBCone news programmes are not under threat really are they.

Well BBC News needs to cut its budget by 25%. So something has to go

As far as I'm aware, and I believe it was on a comment posted to the BBC Editors blog, though I can't find the link right now, it was stated that the One, Six and Ten were likely to survive, but that the idea of having separate newsgathering teams for each would be shelved - instead, these programmes would rely more heavily on News 24's centralised gathering operation.

Edit - it transpires that the link was to this Daily Telegraph article

The most significant paragraph
"Specific teams that work on programmes such as the 10 o'clock News are likely to go and there will be a severe reduction in what we are able to do."

Though I know none are going, I was merely responding to an earlier comment about scrapping the whole lot and instead suggesting that if any had to go then personally I would get rid of the 1 and just keep the 6 and the 10.

For the people whose body clock is like mine, the 1 is surely as important as the 10 for you.

In London we have had South Today when there has been a technical issue so I would guess the thunderstorm had caused a problem.

I generally only watch the Six and the Ten . The Ten is by far the best BBC1 news bulletin, while the One and the Six seem to concentrate more on home and tabloid issues.

Thank goodness for the Ten and Newsnight ...

The BBC One News "teatime" bulletin goes out at 8:05pm tomorrow evening.

It's absurd, and for no reason other than to make sure that it goes out against Coronation Street which is half an hour late due to the Grand Prix.

What is the problem with scheduling a normal bulletin at the traditional time on a Sunday ?
