Can I talk about Newsnight on here??

Paxman gave Hazel Blears and Alex Salmond a rough ride last night. Bit unnecessary really and just going over tired old questions about Blair/change/promises/manifesto pledges and their worth - heard it all before but quite entertaining.

Noitce yesterday at the start of Newsnight when the camera zoomed towards Paxman from the left of the studio to the right, in the second tray where the sofa normally is, there was what I think was a desk.

Cant really be sure, but it sort of looks like the Election 05 desk that was used.

Definately looks like it. The question is, why on earth are they storing it in a live set? I know they might have been rehearsing with it, but couldnt they move it out the way for transmission. It makes Newsnight look like its coming from a storage area.

Presumably they are rehearsing for most of the day, and Newsnight can get away with just using the desk area of the studio. I would imagine there are alot of monitors etc inside that desk and there is no point moving it out for the sake of 45 minutes on 3 evenings.

I noticed that last night they used a tighter shot which didn't include any of the "sofa" area. I'm sure they didn't really think anyone would notice!

Newsnight won't be able to come from it's usual studio tonight though - ending at the same time as Election Night comes on air. So where will it come from? Will they move all BBC1 bulletins to News 24 today?

And has the 1 come from N24 all week?

I also notice that David Dimbleby is presenting two programmes one after the other tonight: Question Time and then Election Night . A short hop from one studio to another, then?

Question Time isn't live. It's recorded a couple of hours before airing I think.

Well as the desk is already there, perhaps Newsnight will come from its usual studio, and then just go over to the bigger desk at the end like they do with Newsnight Review on a Friday.

I suppose the easiest way would be for the 10 to be simulcast from N8 (News 24) and for Newsnight to come from N6. There could be alot of OB reports (from polling stations & foreign correspondents) and very few interviews in the studio (if at all).

The funeral service of Alan Ball is now on N24, so I suspect that Sophie will have free range for the One in the N24 studio.
