could make for an interesting anno if he ever does the six... This is BBC One in the Midlands. Now the six o'clock news with Natasha Kaplinsky, Nicholas Owen and Nick Owen.

That can't happen as the intro for the six these days its "This is BBC One in the Midlands. Now the Six O'Clock news followed by Midlands Today with Nick Owen."

Some times we get "THIS IS ... BBC ONE in the Midlands now the news at ... 1 o'clock with Sophie Raworth and Nick Owen

We ALWAYS get that for the one and ten O'Clock news but not for the six.

Howler on the 10.

We're watching a piece to camera by Evan Davis about the GMTV disaster, and three words in he stopped midstream, said: "Once again", left a three second gap and started speaking again.

Presumably the wrong part of the tape has been used in the final edit. Very funny anyway, especially when it's part of a piece slating another channel for screwing up.

Evan Davies' report was so badly edited on the ten. The graphics werent in the safe areas, and it even included an out-take of reading something and then saying, once more... and starting again!!

Quite bad, the title at the top was cut off in half & an outtake!

Breakfast News
Going back to an earlier talking point about presenter hierarchy. There is no apparent definative list, but I think today shows a good point that there is some preferance. Sian's doing the One, that meant that Kate had to fill in for her on Breakfast, and Carrie on News 24, now surely Carrie could have done the One, meaning that there was less movement of presenters? No?

But then again, they obviously want to have Sian who is more recognisable...suppose I've answered my own quesion there lol, but still all seems a tad pointless

This is just sloppy and really irritates me considering I'm paying all this money in licence fee

Did the editors/producers/reporter not watch the report before it went out?!

Given the BBC's reputation as one of, if not the , world's most respected newscaster, and the considerable attention to detail that goes into virtually every aspect of delivering and communicating the news across multiple platforms, do you not think that this might be an extraordinary event, perhaps precipitated by the need to file the story very late in the day, and not having sufficient time to run it through the usual preparatory procedures in order to get the package on air during the Ten?

I mean, seriously, this is a one-off, and is hardly representative of the overall quality of the BBC's news services, so is it not a bit melodramatic to be harping on about how much money you pay for the licence fee based on this one incident? If it's really stuck in your craw that much, let's calculate how much those few minutes of the package actually cost you personally, and get you a rebate for your considerable loss - but last time I checked, we didn't have coins in the UK for fractions of a penny.

Nothing is ever going to be absolutely perfect, no matter how much money you throw at it. There will always be occasional technical faults on Sky, and your broadband service may go down for a few hours on Virgin... hell, planes still fall out of the sky despite the collossal sums invested in the aviation industry. So how about we allow for a few minutes of imperfection on the BBC as well, because however much we might like to think otherwise, the BBC is every bit as imperfect as the rest of the world.

is a one-off
They did mess it up in one of the reports last week covering the US shootings. Now I'll grant it that they didn't have long maybe in that case, but this report yesturday sounds terrible! Do they not bother watching them over again before airing them? I mean what if during the six they forgot to take out the bit when a reporter swears - it would cause massive complaints!

It's more to do with the constant battle with technology. When the technology fails, as it does with alarming regularity at the moment, these problems occur. That and the fact that most of BBC News' editing suites are tapeless, this only adds to compound the issue.
Perfect display was earlier today when The One ran a package with picture freezes and black holes in it. Then the package after failed to run. You could imagine the added stress in the gallery that caused!
And beautifully - it ran with exactly the same errors on N24 an hour later!!

So as BBC LDN says, a one off?! I think not.

Maybe I was being slightly melodramatic talking about the licence fee, but the bottom line is this is sloppy journalism and should have not slipped through the net on one of the flagship bulletins of one of the largest news organisations in the world. Thank god he only said 'let's do that again'!

Why is it that when the six has one presenter based somewhere in the UK (massive news events like 7/7 or when they're running special features like today's welsh elections coverage) that they only use one presenter? Considering Natasha will probably only do 5 minutes from Wales today, why only have one presenter. I think this demonstrates that they only need one presenter - so why pay someone else to help?
