Random question: Why don't mainstream BBC1 presenters ever read the news on News 24? ITV News presenters nused to do it every day (Mark and Mary/Nina/Andrea etc).

They do sometimes, when they are doing a shift, like Sophie Raworth, but Huw presents Monday to Thursday on News 24

There's recently been a move towards the 'pooling' effect. As others have said, the move towards a single and unified output is taking place and it wasn't too long ago that News 24 'was placed at the heart of the news operation'.

The inclusion of the 1/6/10 was widely seen as a move to include more of the more 'senior' presenters. Indeed, BBC News has undergone a lot of structural changes - removing programme and channel editors being replaced with daytime editors and controllers.

As large scale news events have shown those senior presenters do make the trek over to News 24 and, of course, it wasn't too long ago when Huw Edwards was handed his own prime-time bulletin on the channel - the Five O'Clock News Hour.

Personally, I'd like to see the inclusion of the national faces alot more. Perhaps using the 1/6/10 for a full news hour rather than hand back to N24?

What a bizarre argument!

The theory that Bruce is unable to handle Breaking News is an incredible one, as is the theory that should some crucial news break during one of the National bulletin timelines, then the announcement of such Breaking News will be deferred to the N24 rolling slot afterwards.

The journalists who work as news presenters on the national bulletins are ALL capable of handling unscripted events.

Well surely then they would have included at least a mention of violence involving Tottenham supporters when they had a seperate report and live link-up regarding violence involving Man U supporters the previous night. This is with live tv footage available of the Spurs incident and a BBC reporter being at the ground. It was plain to see for anyone who saw the Spurs game that it would be a major story for the next day and even week, yet got completely overlooked despite being mentioned on N24 before the Ten and in the half ten headlines summary. This is only the most recent example, and I think it is fair to say many national bulletins are still obsessed with running so smoothly they are scared to incorporate stories of genuine interest that may potentially disrupt the flow of their programme.

Yes, I am suggesting an ego-centric presenter may be the reason for this major editorial decision, as in my opinion there is little evidence to the contrary.

Nick Owen has just presented the news on the Politics Show today, instead of Tim Wilcox, as the programme is on two hours later due to the marathon.

Nope. I think he done a Saturday lunchtime bulletin a few weeks ago.

I think he has done a Saturday bulletin because I recall him being on News 24 on a Saturday morning. I think this is the first bulletin he has done that looks like it is from the national studio (despite the fact its from the other)

I wonder if - and how - the BBC would use Nicholas Owen in whatever coverage there is off the 10th Anniversary of Diana's death, considering at the time he was the main man at ITN covering the event.

That can't happen as the intro for the six these days its "This is BBC One in the Midlands. Now the Six O'Clock news followed by Midlands Today with Nick Owen."
