I'm sure the S*n or someone will be telling us DermoT and Kerplunk refused to work together because of a long running feud from their Breakfast days due to an affair / fight over who's turn it was in make up / stolen danish.

Anyway, has anyone else noticed Fiona Bruce's complete inability to deal with breaking news? I've noticed a few times a story has broke after 9pm and I expected it to feature on the Ten O'Clock but lo, the story disappears until suddenly it magically re-appears on the half ten summary on N24. A good example was the fighting between police and Tottenham fans in Spain last week, which was broadcast live on ITV1 yet got no mention on the Ten despite there being a seperate main story on Man Ure fans riotting the night before! Similairly, she rarely includes even important sport results and the show always has a magazine feel when she's presenting. In short, does anyone else think she's a dreadful news presenter?

No, I think she's fine. I'd much sooner watch Fiona presenting than someone else who shall remain nameless otherwise I'll get told off. Don't forget - Fiona will only have a say in the agenda of the bulletin. That's really the job of the producers and editors.

It is odd that it was Natasha doing the one, yet it is Sian and Dermot for the 6, wonder why she was doing the 1, could Sian not have done it?

It just appears to me whenever Fiona is presenter some very odd editorial decisions are made, for example leading on an "exclusive" insight into a British defence system a few years ago when, as Private Eye pointed out, it wasn't in any way exclusive or indeed news, theres been a report from Fiona on Fiona producing a video podcast for you to download as well as the constant ignoring of genuine breaking news. This may be a coincidence, maybe the deputy editor works more with Fiona and has a different agenda but I just find the Ten seems more like ITV News when Fiona is presenting.

Isn't it just pretty much common policy anyhow for the 10 o'clock News (and other BBC1 bulletins) to gloss over breaking news and continue with the bulletin, with News 24 expanding on the story after the simulcast bulletin is over?

The national news bulletins aren't really for 'breaking news' unless it's major or a development to a current story. News 24 specalises in covering news as it breaks.

What a bizarre argument!

The theory that Bruce is unable to handle Breaking News is an incredible one, as is the theory that should some crucial news break during one of the National bulletin timelines, then the announcement of such Breaking News will be deferred to the N24 rolling slot afterwards.

The journalists who work as news presenters on the national bulletins are ALL capable of handling unscripted events.

Not tv, I know, but I wondered if anybody knows what's happened to Sarah Montague from R4's Today programme. She hasn't been on for several weeks, now.

I saw them, they are much shorter than the weekday titles and they're nice and fit in for a shorter bulletins (such as the Noon update, which is the only one I saw).

Random question: Why don't mainstream BBC1 presenters ever read the news on News 24? ITV News presenters nused to do it every day (Mark and Mary/Nina/Andrea etc).

They do sometimes, when they are doing a shift, like Sophie Raworth, but Huw presents Monday to Thursday on News 24
