Complete with the News 24 logo, on BBC 1. Pardon my ignorance, but is that normal nowadays?

Yes I noticed this too. I thought they reverted to 'BBC News' when simulcasting with BBC1 Confused

Nope - I've been moaning about that for year.

God knows what now would take a BBC News special to be fronted by the BBC1 team - but surely it's not much to ask that they consider BBC1 to be the primary channel for key, planned events like this - and just at least drop the 24 branding - even if they don't bring in the BBC1 hosts or use the BBC1 studio!!

I don't see what the problem is. It strikes me as quite a good way of promoting News 24 to a wider audience, which is probably their intention.

Me neither. After all, the BBC are already providing coverage on News 24, so why not just show that on BBC1? What would be the point of having two teams competing against each other for correspondents? I noticed that BBC World took the N24 coverage as well today. The BBC have made the right decision, in my opinion. By pooling resouces, you get a better quality, more cost effective output.

We've been having this debate about 5-6 years now - so I'm not going to get into it again.

Talking of which, has there ever been anymore talk about them dropping the "24" tag from the news channel?

Also, earlier from Media Guardian, talks of cuts being made due to the BBC only getting a bit more money out of us, rather than the windfall the greedy mutts wanted!

Main change would be bringing together the Ten o'clock News teams with tne 1/6 teams.

They also imply the suggestion was made to axe Newsnight - but it was never taken seriously!

Axing Newsnight would be nonsense - but axing the Ten o'clock News wouldn't be, well IMO anyhow!

I've long said I'd be in favour of Newsnight moving to BBC1 and taking the 10-11pm slot (regional news at 10.50pm). The World would then move from BBC4 to BBC2 at 8pm.

I know there are the inevitable problems of a move like this probably netiehr satisfying fans of the 10pm news or of Newsnight - but on the other hand it could be two for the price of one!

Ever since the Nine o'clock News moved it seemed ridiculous that the two programmes aired consecutively - even overlapping.

They'd also be benefits to the schedule as a whole IMO - especially on BBC2, which would open up that post-10pm slot to uninterupted movies and perhaps reasonable late-peak slots for imported dramas.

I actually think that the present set up between Newsnight and the Ten actually works well - you can watch a few reports only covering the known facts on the Ten and then switch over to BBC2 to watch Newsnight , where people actually get to speculate and analyse.

To be fair it probably works better now than it did initially - but it took them sometime to get it right.

As discussed before, they could use the end of the 10pm bulletin much more effectively if they ended the Ten completly before the regional news and then tidying up how they highlight what's on Newsnight, BBC1 and News 24.

Perhaps if the main Ten bulletin was extended by five minutes, it would be easier to link in to Newsnight . Then they could go off to the regions before returning to the nationals studio for a round-up of the news.

I think instead of Emily Maitlis being the regular relief presenter for the BBC the BBC should have a pool of regular presenters from all over the BBC - get Louise Minchin in more often and send Fiona to the six if needed (for example).

In fact, what if the beeb was to have a regular pool of BBC1 Newscasters (Dermot, george, tasha, fiona, sophie, jane, huw, Sian, Emily (maybe) and Jon) who regularly present across the BBC1 bullitens - Huw and George as main anchors who are brought in for important events but otherwise they get who they can.

(Btw im not saying to have Huw on Breakfast for instance)

I see that the BBC are airing the 'early evening' news bulletin on Easter Monday at 7.30pm

Who exactly sits down for an early evening bulletin at that time?

It just means it's a ratings gift to ITV whose bulletin at 6.45pm will probably be the highest rating of the day just like it is every Sunday
