Oh dear, Emily Maitliss presenting the One O Clock news. Why??? Jane Hill is totally in a different league. Maitliss can't seem to project her voice, everything is a whisssper.

How has Maitlis who's been with the news 24 team, for only just over a year managed to get onto the Ten O Clock News and the other nationals when there's Carrie Gracie, Joanna Gosling and Louise Minchin, who are all very experienced and have been with the BBC for years, who never seem to get a look in?

Meh, I don't care so much for the women you have just mentioned. Miatlis is just awful. And they say Kaplinsky had a meteoric rise to fame... I'm just angry that the BBC refuse to use 'more ''mature'' newsreaders. George Alagiah is in his early fifties, so will they be retiring him soon?

Isn't it more of a case that Emily Maitlis now has no fixed slot on N24 because Joanna Gosling took it when she was away on maternity leave? I thought it would mean that she is now a relief presenter and therefore would be asked to cover the nationals as opposed to dragging someone off of their slot.

Nice to see Dermot Murnaghan again on the Six tonight with Sian. A great pairing on the Six and it just shows once again that Dermot is wasted on Breakfast.

A few things ...

1. Jonathan, its Emily Maitlis , not Emily Maitliss or Miatlis etc.
2. Jonathan, Emily has done the One on fridays for a number of weeks, she is now a relief presenter across all the bulletins, she has also done the Ten and the Five o clock news this week as well. I personally do not have a problem with her, and she has been tipped for big things with the BBC for a number of years.

3. r2ro - Dermot presented with Jane tonight on the six.

Why is it that Emily is doing regular relief shifts on News 24 - quite junior, and regularly presenting the One and occasionally the Ten (with Newsnight all the time) but why never the six? The six has better rates and is seen as more important than the One, but nowhere near the ten or newsnight, so why never the six???

Just seems a bit wierd that she wouldn't do the six but Sian and Jane never do the ten but do the six all the time...

Yes, it was a typo, and to be honest I don't care how to spell her name... I was interested to learn she is Jewish, or of Jewish extraction. I always thought she was, by her hair and skin tones. She looks a bit like Vanessa Feltz, only slightly more compresssed.

Whether we like her or not, I feel that no one is in a position to argue with her journalistic credentials.

I have seen her do a couple of Newsnights and she was no better or worse than Paxman or Wark, IMO.

Perhaps it's her journalistic ability and flexibility that makes Maitlis more suited to varied output than some of the other candidates mentioned in the posts above??

Can I just ask a quick question - I recorded this sting from YouTube and was just wondering is this actually how long it is, or does it loop for even longer at the start in order to let the regions opt back in? Right-click

Thats its entire length. Its not used anymore however. Regions opted in as it began, however once or twice Midlands Today over ran and opted in as it got to its climax. Its been replaced with a shorter mix, which is also on youtube somewhere.

No its that long, it was discontinued and replaced with a shorter faster paced version in the last week or so.
