what's with the "iraq4yearson" branding used on Huw's reports, a bit tacky in my opinion

A 'Branding Alert' as they say on Making the News

Not as bad as ITV's "AFTERSHOCK" though, is it?

I thought the same thing! Back in the "virtual era", the Nine O'Clock News did not always end with a main news recap - sometimes, the newsreader would just sign off after the last report. That was OK back then because there wasn't a regional opt out during the bulletin. It is much more obvious now, because the sign-off is standalone from the rest of the bulletin. What made it more comical here in the North West was that Annabel Tiffin said we were rejoining Dermot in London for the headlines! If I'd blinked at that point, I'd have missed Dermot altogether!

I thought NW had overrun and we missed the update, but the newsnight plug and "goodnight" must of been all it was. What an utter waste of time.

Does anyone know if Sian Williams is going to become a regular face of the six again or if she's now just sticking to Breakfast.

She's on the Six tonight...

I don't think it was planned so that Dermot would just say that - I presume it was because of some delays, such as Huw reliasing he was on air 10 seconds after they switched to him and just as he spoke they took the camera back to the studio probally to say we can't get in contact with Huw atm.. and Huw interviewed some people which might have not been timed accurately.. Hense running out of time for the headlines so just cutting short.

Huw was very spot on at the start of the program though, lol. As soon as it hit 10:00:00 he spoke, i would presume it might be slightly delayed due to using a satelite signal.

I observe little things :p

update:

"It was a tricky Ten O'Clock News last night. We lost our main communications link with London - so I found myself being cued by the Ten O'Clock editor Craig Oliver who was on a dodgy mobile phone link to TV Centre. It's a strange sense not having any of the usual director's talkback, and not being aware of the way the programme is developing. Stranger still when you're broadcasting from the Iraqi desert. We'd found an old Iraqi tank left in the mud since 2003 - and it seemed an appropriate backdrop for the fourth anniversary. "

Indeed, the most pointless 'return to London' ever.

They should really drop the update, do people really need telling the news again 5 minutes later?, and let the regions close the bulletin

it just sums up the programme - i don't think there is anything wrong with it. i think it should be

3-4 reports
regional news
1-2 reports
goodbye
weather

On Wikipedia it says that from Monday April 02 2007, the Six o'clock news will be co-presented by Sian Williams and Jon Sopel, and the Ten o'clock news will be co-hosted by Fiona Bruce and Dermot Murnaghan with Jane Hill and Bill Turnbull presenting on Fridays. The presenters will also present a relaunched Five O'clock News Hour on BBC News 24. Huw Edwards will move to a new role replacing David Dimbleby as host of major events and will also take over main presenting duties on The Daily Politics.

Is this true?

It actually is at Wiki but thanks. Wow it does say that and they've given it a date which suggests that's the case, but then again I can't find anything elsewhere - but I'll keep looking! I'd love to see them present it!

If this is true, they are huge changes, effecting almost all parts of BBC News.

However I don't think they are true. I really can't see Huw Edwards being moved from the Ten to present the Daily Politics (the Dimbleby duties, while high profile, aren't that often) - especially when he's only recently started the Five.
