Its not cost, its the fact the current nationals studio (N6) is closed for refurbishment.
I think Brekkie is right - I don't think there is any plan, currently, for weekend bulletins to be done in any other way other than as an opt-in to News 24 even after the refurbishment when News 24 moves into its new home... That is another cost saving...
I realise that they will keep the current set up of an opt in to N24 at the weekends, but I read Brekkies comments that it was costs preventing them using N6 or TC7 at the moment, which is incorrect.

Although....they didn't have the top story ready and it still isn't ready at 13.10.
Not to mention that the second headline Jane read out was "Gordon Brown defends the speaker", to a video of two people emptying a wheelie bin onto the ground!

That was very funny, I thought.

Think you misinterpreted me. I know the studio issue at the moment and I know long term News 24 is moving in with BBC1 (which is a cost issue, whatever anyone says).
What I meant was why aren't they using TC7 currently for the weekend bulletins when in the past N6 had been used? They have the option there at the moment at least to keep the consistency of the look and keep the national teams out of News 24, but have chose not too - and surely cost-cutting has been a factor in that decision.

I see, well the reason is a mixture of cost and logistics, as the sets for the Politics Show and Sunday AM are put together on a Saturday afternoon ready for Sunday morning

How much relighting is required? I presume that putting extra lamps up so that both set-ups can be acommodated by switching on different lights isn't possible?

Are you talking about TC7 being unavailable for the weekend national news bulletins?
It has nothing to do with lighting. TC7 is set up for Andrew Marr/Politics Show which dresses the set inappropriately for the news (there is no desk for a start!) The set presumably isn't redressed again until Sunday afternoon or very early on Monday morning.

No - there is a bit more too it than that - and only a limited number of lamps and mountings, meaning they have to be moved, re-focused and re-aimed etc. Since the screen based set was introduced into the studios lighting has become even more important to get right, as you have to keep as much light as possible off the screens to avoid them washing out.

What happened to that small CSO screen where the summary from the Andrew Marr Show is presented from? Why can't that be used as everything should already be set up in terms of lighting and set?
As for the gallery, couldn't it be used like for the regional news bulletin at weekends with one VT mixer and a director whilst the presenter operates the autocue? The regions seem to manage fine so why couldn't it be done at national level. This would have minimal cost and get rid some of the mess that happens at the moment.
