Much better introduction to the simulcast of the Sunday early evening news today. Tim Willcox simply announced that they were about to be joined by BBC One viewers for a bulletin with Mishal Husain.

It's much better than the sort of sloppy transitions they've done in the last few weeks. I'm sure this is how it should work for the bulletins when N24 and everything but the Six comes from N6.

Apologies that the audio seems slightly out of sync Shocked

Jane Hill's handbag made for an excellent addition to the studio during the early evening news yesterday. It actually looked quite a nice one.

If he hadn't stumbled over his words so much it'd have been better, yes!

Still would have made more sense to extend the 4pm hour to end at 5.10pm, with perhaps a headlines summary at 5pm, followed by a filler story and then the weather and a couple of trailers before returning for the 5.10pm bulletin.

It does make News 24 feel like the second rate station though when it's viewers are told they're viewing choice is being interrupted for the sake of BBC1 viewers. It's fine in the week when the bulletins are on the hour and half hour, but at weekends it just seems like a right mess.

Agreed totally.

Although this attempt was better than last week's hash it's still not very good with an ad-libbed explanation followed by a sharp cut to Mishal Hussein. It also interrupts the flow of the channel completely and ends up resulting in two news summaries in the space of ten minutes on N24.

These simulcasts aren't a good idea at all, at least not from the N24 point of view.

Would it not be possible to do the BBC1 bulletin from a CSO background - like the one used for the update during the Politics Show? There is not much need for a wide shot since the bulletins are so short, and it would allow News 24 to carry on as normal. I'm sure someone in the know will give me all sorts of reasons why this option hasn't been explored..but it seems too obvious an answer.

It looks and sounds ridiculous. Surely it would be better to at least run a trailer between Tim and Mishal, rather than Tim telling us to 'stay tuned for the bulletin starting in a few seconds time'

It's an absolute shambles, it really is. I've said it before and I'll say it again - these cutbacks really are going too far. It's so annoying that they save money this way, and make a complete hash of it, whilst tripe like that Lily Allen show gets money thrown at it.

Is it really so hard just to time a brief "You're watching BBC News 24" (or similar), followed by a sting, into the simulcast? Granted, it's not the greatest piece of flowing television, but is relatively unconvoluted (which is definitely a word).

I'm really tempted to shove in an oversized deep red "Overexaggeration of the week" message here.

The whole point is that would involve another studio and all the extra cost involved. This way only uses one studio and to be honest the BBC One audience is far bigger than the News 24 one. ITN News Channel used to do it all the time - simulcast the main bulletins.
