Is the top of the One O'Clock always this messy now it comes from the News24 studio? The opt-out headlines to the regions are really messy, and the lack of thunderclaps is pretty noticeable too. It all looked really odd! The 1 seemed to be using a different version of the headline bed to the opt as well.
Yes it is always this messy. BBC London were until this week using a different bed when opting out.

Yes this is true I dont know why the thunderclaps arent being used but they never have when nationals come from there
I can't say I was overly impressed with the One today. The headlines are dodgy without the thunderclaps yet my region was using them for their insert. To say all it required was for the bed to restart, and decent sized pauses after each headline, I'm sure it could be done.
Other gripes of the bulletin was the fact that the Live location BUG seemed to crop up at wrong times and stay on screen longer than it should have. In addition the astons were missing the last few lines so the bottom of letters were chopped off, again looking messy. The only other thing was that it felt like Kate was rushing through some of her links, although this still added nothing to the pace on N24, which seemed incredibly slow with it being a structured summary not a more in-depth continuous coverage.
The start of the Six is always messy here in Look East West Sub Opt Land. Lots of noticeable glitches into and out of the regional insets. Does Cambridge have to opt from Norwich? It always seems like Norwich opt immediately followed by a second opt from Cambridge. Either way its very noticeable.
IIRC Cambridge cannot opt direct from the network and so yes do opt from Norwich. I have never watched the start of the bulletins of the Cambridge feed. Do they do the whole headline sequence in Cambridge then rather than the first headline from Norwich with the rest at Cambridge.
Cambridge isn't properly connected to the network as I recall, its not permanently connected to the transmitter like other sites are. Something to do with sharing the circuit with the OB unit receiver.

The insets on the National News are either just Norwich or Cambridge (seems to depend on if there is any significant story in the west land as to whether we get a Cambridge opt or not during the National intro). During the main Look East programme at 18:30 The first, second & fourth headline are Norwich with the third coming from Cambridge (although this is never messy and always looks neat but i suspect its pre-recorded). Look East (east) of course just get all four headlines from Norwich. It's very evident there is switching going on just before the Ident plays to introduce the News and again as the 6 or 10 titles roll there is further switching glitches. I notice it more on Analogue but its still evident on Sky+ as the titles jump and the music skips. It makes it look like there is a problem with the opening titles to the news.
I would imagine that Cambridge's equipment is no where near as new as the equipment at the Forum, especially as originally Cambridge was just an interim measure until Milton Keynes - which now isn't happening.

Only the case for analogue - for Freeview things are much more standard.
However as analogue is still earlier, and master, Cambridge do still opt-out of Norwich, not network (as Cambridge don't always opt-out for every bulletin...) This means Cambridge always have to opt-out VERY tightly and try and beat Norwich, and have to wait for Norwich to opt-back...
Since they started in the News 24 studio, has there been a day yet when the One O'Clock News *hasn't* been a technically-botched mess? I genuinely think Kate Silverton is fantastic, she's way too good for this.
