I know it's going to be an infrequent thing, and just for a few weeks, but I'd have thought it'd be neater to start a back half hour programme, such as HardTalk, at 2140 to run through to 2210 when they're joined by BBC One. A strap could come up at 2200 saying the headlines follow in 10 minutes.

Hopefully the problems will be sorted out for next time as it really does sound messy. I appreciate they couldn't have known that the rugby was going to overrun but why does a rolling news channel end up playing out almost five minutes worth of trailers, start a report and then cut out to read a summary of the headlines only to repeat them? I agree with the previous poster and run a back half hour programme over the time the BBC One bulletin should have run (allowing ten minutes either side) and then perhaps all of this could have been avoided.
I agree that the closing shot does look nice though.

Seems they have removed some of the glass and made the set more by the pod.

Personally I'd prefer for N24, the one and ten to all come from a modified N8 rather than the tiny but 'hi-tech' N6!
If you ask me the nationals don't work coming from N6, let alone N24! Just put in better, bigger and sharper screens to replace the projector things and a new desk and it would be fine!

When you look at it, I agree. I would hate to see News 24 come from N6, yes it may be easier and give them a bit more room, but it's the atmosphere from the background that makes the channel work. It was the one thing that I didn't like about the ITV News Channel, the fact that there was no atmosphere to it, and it would be a shame if the BBC lost this.

I agree - the thing about N8 is that it is 'involved' in the newsroom. As you say, ITV's was cold and empty, and skys is too full, but N24 seems to get the balance right. All it needs is a bit of tweeking (new desk, new screens, soft chairs/sofa in the pod etc.) and it could be used for everything, including the nationals. They would just need to sort out the difficulties in the handover and it would work perfectly.
It just seems odd that the BBC are changing something that is fine as it is. Another example of this is the white-wash of Mr Lambie-Nairne and his crew. The red globe is almost iconic now and may possibly need a bit of updting (like the mocks by Dan and Martin), but nothing else.

In a word. No. Not really that lovely at all.
Messy shot, with a waste bin, foldback speaker, dangling mic on the floor, printer in the foreground, a floating chair between the two set areas, and lamps and cameras in shot, and the bbc on the website graphic is almost unreadable.
It is a good choice of shot for the space - but I'm afraid I can't describe it as "lovely".
On the plus side it is a huge improvement over the soft, poorly colour-balanced, noisy tracking camera that is overused on much of News 24's output - at least this is a broadcast quality camera!
(Not a fan of cameras in shot personally - kind of admits that you can't shoot your set well enough, or your set isn't big enough, to keep them out. People can argue that it is post-modern deconstruction of the production process - I'm afraid I think it looks messy and cheap)

It isn't an infrequent thing at all - this is how BBC One bulletins will continue to made at weekends. Like the One and the Ten they are going to be simulcast from the joint News 24/BBC One studio. The Six, the 8pm and the daytime summaries are the only bulletins being made elsewhere in the plans so far made public.
