In fairness she didn't fluff a word but unfortunately couldn't get out of the "talking to kids" mode, which made everything sound pretty patronising.
The final VT didn't run so we ended up with her talking over the continuing shot of the previous story - Diana in that lift - which they randomly went full frame on towards the end.

Did I just spot Ellie from Newsround with the BBC One 90 second update?

Now now, just wait until she's knicked Sophie's job.
Seriously though, I always imagined Emily Maitlis would take over from Kate, though by the looks of it they're trying different people out. So far we've had
Sian Williams
Fiona Bruce
Ellie Crisell
all present in Kate's absent/ Fridays, and I really do doubt that Kate will ever return to the bulliten after the one - just as long as Sophie doesn't get shoved to somewhere else like News 24 or World
. And remember Ellie has done a lot on News 24 and reported for both Breakfast and the one, plus the 8pm bulliten is hardly Newsnight standards.
P.S. Don't forget she's pregnant - she wont be around in March to take over!

I saw the 8pm update for the first time on Tuesday. It's ok but i agree the screen should not be slanted as it looks cheap and nasty. Why not do something similar to News 24 with in vision signing? Have the presenter (or signer in N24's case) with a graphic behind them with a viseo playing to the side of them. Might look a bit neater. I think the regional part of this bulletin is particularly useless. Probably works better for the nations but here in look east west sub opt land there really is little to fill it with.
