Interesting to see Huw on tonight's 'early evening' bulletin on BBC One. Like the old days of the Six!

He was on at lunch too, as we are using the old weekend model of 1 person for three bulletins - is nice to see him tough in daylight hours Laughing

28th Dec is an ordinary day, so why when i tune in at 6pm to see the news its already been and gone??

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I've noticed that on New Years Eve, the late news is being shown at 9:30pm in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but it's being shown at 9:00pm in Scotland.

When I first saw this in the listings, I thought that it was a mistake, but given that it hasn't changed from this, it must be correct.

In terms of the network news, does this mean that they're showing a pre-recorded news bulletin in Scotland (would they be allowed to do this?), or are they going to produce 2 live bulletins?

It's not a bank holiday, but it is Christmas week nevertheless. Normal service resumes on Wednesday 2nd.

It's quite obviously NOT an ordinary day. Or did your kids go to school that day?

What have kids not going to school got to do with the news? The schedules don't change for half term.

Though it should be obvious that TV schedules run differently at this time of year.

Yep - there are occasional days where BBC Scotland's schedule means they can't take a network news bulletin at the time it is scheduled elsewhere, and wherever possible the network team in London will do a separate bulletin just for Scotland. Quite common for this to happen on Saturdays because of Football, and usually the Scottish bulletin is after the network one.

This is sometimes a different duration, and in some cases includes pre-recorded interviews "turned round" from the earlier bulletin (particularly if they are from an expensive location which would cost a lot more to do a second time), but if a story has moved on this is reflected in the bulletin.

This will be much more of an issue once BBC One news is integrated with News 24...

i also notice weatherview is on half an hour earlier than network, is weatherview live or recorded? also seems odd that bbc one scotland are closing at 1.50 on the night where people are arguably the most likely to be still up in the early hours, in the country which claims to be the most enthusiastic about celebrating new year.

you'd have thought they'd have some entertainment on until 2.30 or 3.00 at the very earliest!

Thats a very good point! Unless the Scottish bulletin coincides with some rehearsal time (and we don't even know if there will be any) for the network bulletin I guess the best bet, in terms of logistics, would be asking News 24 to produce a live bulletin for Scottish viewers and hope the huge N24 audience on Saturday nights aren't fussed. Either that or asking the Scottish presenter to read the national news with inserts from earlier network bulletins and N24! Thats assuming News haven't managed to get a nice green screen somewhere which would solve a million potential problems.

I wonder how many contingency plans are being drawn up by BBC News at the moment because of these moves?

Excuse me but I think Scotland should do as they're bloody well told by Network.

Everyone on here moans at all nations and regions on the BBC and ITV being the same, but when one does do something different, you still moan. The cost of doing this as a one off is negligible - all the crew are in anyway. Also BBC 1 Scotland has taken a bulletin from News 24 before.

The reason of course for tonights difference is the fact that it's New Year's Eve in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in Scotland it's Hogmanay. These are cultural differences with different programmes to reflect that. On this occasion the timings of the pre-recorded programmes during the evening must just not match up or something, which must be why there is a separate bulletin.
