Wouldn't say I was madly gone on the Christmas Eve close, but the one used last night with the snow overlay and dimmed lights looked very pretty, and not at all over the top or even unwarranted.

Just goes to show how crap the TV is nowadays - even on Christmas Day. In fact, come to think of it, the news is all I tend to watch at the moment.

Rubbish. The BBC's Christmas Day news has always had massive audiences. Goodness knows why, it's always the same stories. Queen goes to Balmoral Church and gives a speech - Nicholas Witchell is outside Buck House. The Pope says something pious in 3940 languages. Soldiers in some foreign land are celebrating Christmas in a desert. The weather will be crap for the next few days. But everyone watches it, perhaps we feel we should as we stuff our faces. So more people watched Jane Hill than the Queen!

Because families were watching Shrek beforehand and were waiting for Eastenders after? Its not rocket science. Remember these ratings only take into account whether a TV is on, not whether anyone was in the room or paying any attention to it.

I agree. The Christmas Eve close was alright but it was quite cheesy. I think the main problem was that stupid child on the backdrop, which IMO was awful and not really Christmassy. However I did like the use of the sleigh bells in the ending music.

Here's a hint: it looks better with a source.

Interesting to see Huw on tonight's 'early evening' bulletin on BBC One. Like the old days of the Six!

So basically she's taking maternity leave just like she did a year or two ago. Yes, she might not come back, but most likely she will. It's hardly a big deal is it?
