Noggin, when you say "quite a significant change", do you know something about the changes, or are you just surmising? Are they changing N6's look at all, just working on something to be displayed on the backdrop, or are they just technical changes behind the scenes?
To me something would have to be done physically to solve the problem that there would be no way to recreate the current N8 set-up where both presenters can talk to a correspondent on 'their' screens. This can't be done in N6 using the wall as it's too far from one of the presenters.
Here, Natasha can talk to a correspondent:

...but George wouldn't be able to:

...unless they did something like this:

...or they could put the desk in the corner for News 24 like this:

...but Sian hardly looks comfortable looking over her shoulder there!
Err - when the Six had two presenters both were able to interview remote reporters via screens on the left and right of the desk. You simply have to move your cameras around to do it.
As for my comments about re-engineering - they were about just that - engineering.
The BBC One studio is just that - a studio designed to work into a presentation area. The News 24 operation also includes network switching and presentation functionality and a lot more knitting as News 24 has no separate presentation area.
I was not making any comments about changes to "on screen" look - though I would imagine there will be changes - particularly to the desk design and positioning.

All of the current News studios were either built or refurbished in the mid-to-late 1990s. Some have had their cameras replaced since, and new servers installed, but there are other things that need to be upgraded.
As others have said, the current BBC One studio is being re-engineered to allow News 24 to broadcast from there. (Quite a significant change)

Don't think so - I presume they'll have to ditch this while N6 is being done up though.
Perhaps they could have the regions do the news update.
I know this happens on the six, not sure about the one.

Never saw the RH presenter doing this. As the desk is positioned closer to the LH wall the RH presenter is a lot further away from the RH wall and so there's a large expanse of empty studio to talk across. Would probably have looked ridiculous, but as I never saw it I can't say for definite.
Perhaps if they get a bigger, centrally placed desk when News 24 move in it will work better?

Why not do the 6 and 10 from the News 24 studio for the duration of the work? Give people time to record in the studio and set up for Newsnight?
Do Sportsday as soon as the main bulletin anchor has signed off, that will give time for a News 24 presenter to be set up and then hand back at 45 minutes past the hour?
Imagine Paxman if something does go wrong with the newsnight set!

The wideshot makes the studio look bigger. N6 is not big at all.
Here are some caps from the six

Thanks for those - but as you see, both presenters are speaking to the interviewees, it seems that it would have been more difficult to just frame George. With a wider desk however this would be easier.

I've always said that putting the desk in the middle would look good. A bit like this:
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/12/35112202122.jpg
Leaving one area for presentation and one for sport/weather/business. I think one thing needed is a bigger desk.
Along with this I think it would be good if there were some other changes. I doubt we will see any, with it only being a year since the current look launched. But, if we did see any, I'd like to see some smaller and minimilistic graphics, more like the old national graphics, they were fantastic. Its a shame we had to see them go!

End of the Six - just had jingle bells in the background, a falling snow effect keyed on screen, photos of houses decorated in festive lights and inflatable stuff, and a request for viewers to send in their own pictures of such houses.
Is it just me or is this just plain wrong on a BBC national news programme?
