The CSO background used on tonight's Ten for the correspondent in Manchester was terrible, a green glow around him and the picture quality of the backdrop was awful.

It was again used on Newsnight and you could see Oxford Road through the the interviewee's jacket, I assume there was lots of green glowing onto his jacket.

Can the BBC not provide better facilties?

The NCA studio at BBC Manchester is state of the art kit. As the above poster said it had just been incorrectly keyed (controlled remotely by network). The only thing I could see needs doing to it is bringing into 16:9 as it appears pretty squashed when used on N24 or network. I've never really been a fan of CSO because if it does go wrong it can look terrible, I really like the setup they use at Tunbrige Wells if i recall correctly where the interviewee sits infront of a mockup newsroom with a screen to blur the background.

It may well be 'state of the art kit' but whenever the BBC uses the Manchester newsroom camera it just looks awful. Every single time. When Tony Wilson karked it a few weeks ago they had a guy from New Order on Newsnight from Manchester - cue that ethereal green glow.

The same thing happened a few years ago when John Peel died. I can't remember who the guest was (Mark E Smith, someone from The Undertones?) but the shot looked terrible. Manchester always looks awful (although I'm from Liverpool, so I think that's true generally of Manchester).

Well the whole set is being revamped in September so it should have better 'facilities' then.

Oh dear, is BBC going down the 'ITV News Uploaded' route, with the 'Your News' feature in this evenings bulletin. I'm aware the 'Your News' programme has existed / be shown on News 24 for some time, though it's the first time I've noticed it's branding in the national bulletins. I can hear the complaints of "the BBC is dumbing down" flooding in already.

It's been like that at least since Nick Owen presented with Natasha a few weeks ago.

The Your News brand has been used on nationals for a while now.

Oh, I must have missed the bulletins it's been on in the past, or at least been away from the TV screen for the duration where the 'Your News' intros have been used.

If BBC Three's half hour bulletin had still be in existence it's something that I'd expect to see, or would seem more fitting with the style/feel of the programme. On the national news it seemed a bit out of place, it probably wasn't helped by the accidental play out of the Amy Winehouse clip at the start.

Quite frankly the BBC 6 o' clock news team are a bunch of tossers. I don't usually slag the BBC off but they have just showed graphical pictures of really bad looking teeth after smoking - this is SIX O CLOCK, people are eating dinner/tea now!! I bet there are complaints.

And you'd also chide the BBC for showing pictures of dying children in Sudan, because it's dinner time and people might be eating?

I don't recall seeing such graphical images.

Perhaps you're not old enough to either remember such images in history, or care about what's going on outside of your backyard.

If somebody's bad teeth was as disgusting as you described, and was likely to have offended viewers, the report would have come with a warning. Graphics are important in this case because they are effective in portraying a point with emphasis, and it's certainly worked because it has had such an effect on you.

I feel that the regional news programmes ending with the national headlines is not working

The presenters have to come out of the 'and finally' silly story or the weather banter laughing and then abruptly go all serious, read the national headline and then end the programme seriously

They should either drop it or reintroduce the Six update
