Then after four years, having confused everyone into thinking the news programme and radio station were both called 'LDN' when they weren't, they finally changed the logo to something more sensible, i.e. 'BBC LONDON'. Unfortunately at the same time they launched new opening titles that were far inferior.
No, when the logo changed to 'BBC London' in 2004 they kept the original titles but just changed the endboard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asUtBFQIXeU As I say this co-incided with the closure of LNN and the move of London Tonight to an ITN production
The second set of titles - the diagonal ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH3Xisp8lcs were launched a couple of years later and yes they weren't as good. There were lots of versions though, lots of scenes randomly selected
It was certainly an innovative way of doing things and certainly made an impact after years of the slightly staid Newsroom SouthEast. I thought it was great, the idea of just a presenter and two plasma screens worked well.
There were some oddities though, the resident fish and the sting that played showing them walking down the spiral staircase for the second half of the programme. Later on the experimental art hanging in the aitrium behind the presenter just looked odd.
Today's BBC London News seems as staid in comparison as Newsroom South East was at the start
